I was able to get back to car this weekend and installed a new two port fuel pump. I’m happy to report that the car is running again! Tomorrow I’ll mount the pump and hopefully take it for a ride after i set the timing.
I want to thank everyone again for all your suggestions. I learned a lot through this process and will be better able to tackle the next challenge when it comes. Jack ![]() |

I think I read that you still have points. If that’s the case, did you set the dwell? If it’s not set correctly the car won’t start. Also, check the ground cable on the distributor plate. If it’s broken or not connected the car won’t start.

RJames,
Thanks for the message. I installed a new pump and that solved the problem. After I was sure the problem was solved I installed a Pertronix so no more dwell settings needed. Jack |

I started this post back in July when my ‘74 2.0 wouldn’t start. Got lots of help from the group and after going through a lengthy checklist seen in a previous post on this thread, a new fuel pump got me back on the road.
Unfortunately I took the car out a few days ago and the problem that got me started down this path reappeared. After all the improvements, the car runs better than it ever has since I’ve owned it, until it gets warm. Then it starts bucking...badly. At first it was intermittent hesitation but now it’s back to bucking. In previous posts I’ve listed every step along the way. The only thing I haven’t done is replace the coil, which is about 5 years old. It’s as if it completely and suddenly loses power for an instant. Voltmeter never wavers. Any suggestions are welcome.
