Those are easy to replace and cheap. Save your anger for the big items that are going to piss you off.... (IMG:style_emoticons/default/headbang.gif)

Ordered a flow meter so I can adjust the carbs.

Working on a few cosmetic items while I wait.

The car came with a really old mismatched set of GM lap belts so they got replaced.

The bumper tops spent the last 48 years suffering through the Arizona sun. They have/had some major splits and they were extremely dry rotted.

This is not a show car, it is a high school daily driver so...

5 cans of plastidip later and they are almost ready to go back on the car. Curing overnight and then 2 more cans should do the trick.

I've been traveling a lot so not much has been done. It still doesn't pass emissions.

I've joked with my son that I am going to remove one of the spark plug wires to make it slower.

So today I'm starting to do some work on it, (new starter Bosch SR68X and some other minor things) and just messing around, I decided to pull one of the plug wires off at the distributor. It got me with a few arcs but the worst thing is, nothing changed. The car ran exactly the same with the one plug wire pulled. Then I put it back and tried another. Still no change. pulling the plug wires for both cylinders on the drivers side of the car did not change how the engine was running at all. I guess that is a clue to start figuring out why it is running like that and a good indication why it won't pass emissions.

If you have Weber’s there is a good chance an idle jet is plugged. LMK if you need help. I have a couple books plus a great how-to guide for tuning carbs.

We still have some tuning to do but we got it cleaned up so he can have it in his senior pictures. These are just some camera shots in the driveway. The real senior pictures will look much better.

We were working on getting it cleaned up last night and two of the bolts pulled out of the left side of the rear bumper top so that went in the trash.

We got a bunch of parts from the PO when we bought the car including two sets of tail lights(in addition to the set on the car). The set with the best lenses must have been recovered from the engine room of the Titanic because they were FULL of rust. The lens bolts were so rusted that I could not get the lenses off the housings without cracking them in half. Luckily, the second spare set were not rusted and the lenses looked a lot better than the ones on the car so it all worked out.

When I bought the car the brake lights and turn signals worked but when I got it home, they didn't. (frustrating!!!)
After swaping out the tail lights last night, they all work again (still frustrating because now I can't trust them).

Michael, I'll be in touch about the Webers. I've run out of free time for this weekend but I need to get them squared away soon. Thanks.

I tell you what...ya'll have done a great job of getting this ole 914 cleaned up...
It looks GREAT!!!
Get with Michael on the carbs.... a good rebuild on the Webers will help immensely with those emission test numbers.
And for those worried about this young fellow driving it to school...don't....there's no back seat and you can only take one other person with you...fewer teens in the car means less trouble.
Good luck on this project!

Nathan is 5' 11"

Our photographer did a great job photoshopping the car in that pic.

Here are a couple unedited pictures.
