realizing the ancient "are you a citizen, where were you born?" entry to the states is a thing of the past, what is currently required to get back into the states? is a passport required for U.S. citizens, or will a drivers license and birth certificate do the job? whistler in august. got the primo condo in the old village.

Bring your passport. I was up there almosst 2 years ago now and when we came back across the border, we were asked for our passports. Course we didn't have them and were told that next time be sure and bring it. It might save you some time if you have one.
Cheers, Elliot

US drivers license and a birth Cert work now, a Passport works pretty well too so they can read the bar codes and see if you are "Wanted"

Don't travel with a friend who speaks English with a heavy French accent. I did when I went skiing and we ended up staying awhile at the US Border while the idiots inside searched the car lookin for stuff and asking stupid questions like:
What were you doing in Canada?
Skiing, Sir.
Why?
Ah, for a skiing vacation.
Is this your skiing equipement?
Yes, Sir.
Why did you go skiing in Canada?
There is no snow in the Seattle area. Sir
on and on it went for 45 minutes.

"where were you born?"

None of your business

"Are you an American citizen?"

Are you writing a book?

"Are you bringing anything back?"

Back from where?

"from Canada"

No, I'm from the US, do you speak english or espaniol?

"Do you have a problem, sir?"

A problem with what?

"a problem with this interogation?"

Am I under arrest?

"No, I'm just asking some simple questions"

Simple is as simple does.

"What do you mean?"

What do you mean 'what do you mean'?

"would you open the trunk?"

Which trunk?

"The trunk of the car, sir."

Which one?

"This car right here!"...

A drivers license and birth certificate works for going both ways across.

Don't bring a bloody chainsaw with you or they might keep you for a couple of hours.

Yes, Sir.
Why did you go skiing in Canada?
There is no snow in the Seattle area. Sir
on and on it went for 45 minutes.

My experiences crossing the US/Canadian border were pretty much the same - pre-9/11. Twice on bike, twice in a VW Bus.

US to Canada:
Customs Officer: Welcome to Canada! Enjoy your stay!

Canada to US at Niagra Falls (with a passport):
Where are you coming from? - Uh, outside of Brantford just this morning.
What's in the bags? - My camping gear, clothes, food.
Why are you riding a bike? - Adventure trip, for fun.
Why would you want to do that? - Well call me crazy but it is a pretty neat adventure.
Where did you start? - Washington.
D.C.? - No, state.
Why would you ride a bike all that way? - (The border officer was not joking around, he was serious) Like I said, just for the adventure.

Questioning continues for about 30 minutes.........
Me: Sir, would you like to see my passport? (Sorry to have gotten you off your fat ass.) It is getting late and I really do need to move along.

Officer: Well I suppose so, have a good day.

That was my most memorable but every other crossing was similar.

I really like Canada! The country and the people. I would carry a passport for the trip back though.

(IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/laugh.gif) BTDT ... what I said was "the front one or the back one" which got me a nasty look and a few more minutes of ball breaking

funny thing is I was with another club member who had his 914 on a trailer....they looked in the cab and bed of the truck....but never even glanced at the 914....that's some border security for ya (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/wacko.gif)

Bring your passport. It may not be needed yet, but it will not hurt.

We are going to the Mosport club race e at the end of July. We plann on bringing 50-75 gallons of rase fuel with is on the trailer

Does any one know if we will run into problem bring this fuel from the US into Canada? or where can I find out?

What weekend is that Tim?

I live about 25-30min. from Mosport.

Don't think the gas is an issue as long as it's in approved cans.

I don't think the fuel will be a problem going into Canada. Just no guns, drugs, fireworks etc.... Canada is still a great place to visit, where the people aren't paranoid.

Coming back might be a problem thou. Check the list.

The race is July 29th-31st, we will be traveling up on the 28th, and back on Aug 1st.

We have loads of those 5 gal fuel jugs, they are made to hold fuel so I suppose there ok?

Funny stuff!!

Forgot my passport twice on business trips to Canada: no problem comming or going. That was a few years ago. Anything different now?

On the southern border (Mexico), there always seemed to be more antics with the US border guys.
