As long as we are playing 'show me yours, I'll show you mine..', anyone have or seen one like this? Was in my '70 when I bought it in 1977. Can't see any manufacturer logo on the front, bottom or back. Still works although I rarely turn it on. The button above the right dial is a mono/stereo select I believe and lights up when a stereo station is selected.

We have all discussed radios, but thought since I was taking some pics for a customer that I would post. The original blaupunkt frankfurt (writing only about frankfurt now) ordered as an option from the factory (a very rare occurrence) or from the dealer had two different designs...As you can see two types are displayed along with both the usa and the european faces. I am trying to get to the bottom of what would have been original for a 1970 914-6, where the Vehicle Description sheet lists: M453 Blaupunkt Frankfurt US retractable antenna with loudspeaker & noise suppression Is M453 the same as model number 7 639 670? If concerned with correct year, the leading character of serial number would be A (69/70) or B (70/71)? I'm referencing DerWhites Blaupunkt Radio Identification site, which I realize was originally created for 356 but lists radios through 1975. Would that radio have had a face plate? Referring to 914 and 914-6 Porsche, A Restorer's Guide to Authenticity III. The reference photo there shows it with no face plate. The car currently has:

My car came with a crap Kmart 8 track. Got this mint radio on eBay from a guy in Alaska for 250 a couple months ago with most of the mounting hardware. It looked unused. George at AA hooked me up with the dash plate and the rear mounting clip. Added a Bluetooth module to the auxiliary input and now I can stream Dark Side of the Moon right from my phone.

That Blaupunkt Frankfurt is the most complimentary choice for our early dashboards. It is period correct and the perfect match to the heat/defrost control surround. It is often seen in similar era 911s that have only a single speaker. We are lucky that 914s have two speakers available. We can choose the stereo version of the Frankfurt without having to cut our door panels. See the picture in my earlier reply. For early cars Perry, Damiano and Gandalf have the right units properly mounted. |

I thought Becker Europas were options as well. Haven’t seen a mention of them yet.

While I was reviewing what I got from the old original owner, I tried to identify the best way to do it.
The original owner of my car had a set of clarion speakers drilled on the doors, front left fender for the antenna, an old (non working blaupunkt) and a set of clarions hanging on the targa arch, (IMG:style_emoticons/default/icon8.gif) ![]() Got rid of the speakers on the targa, deleted the old cable on the door seals, and replaced the rotted speakers on the doors (has the holes already, so no turning back) had to source a set of 5.5” focal 2 way round speakers with a grill cover that fit. For the head unit, I sourced a vintage look mp3 and BT blaupunkt ($60) on eBay and a new faceplate with the right vinyl, and a new hirschmann antenna, I installed them and they work, but! I am still convinced the right way to do it is to delete it all, and go back to the original blank faceplate in the dash. As it came out of the factory. Cant really hear anything with carburetors anyway. ![]() I am still pending to find a set of oval speakers to fit the original speaker grill that convince me. (Tight space) Another thing the old owner had, a plug installation on the speaker grills to fit headsets in both sides which is funny, I can imagine him and his date with their own headsets. ![]() |

Here is one that I have in the stash. It is a Mono Radio that says PORSCHE on the AM/FM selector. Unfortunately I can't read the old paper label on the top. I'm not exactly sure what brand, there are two small round parts on the sides that say Motorola. I have powered it up with a speaker and it works!

personally i'd consider killing to have one of these. ![]() Not sure what model it is but this was in the 70 914 1.7 I saved from a wrecker a few years ago. I have been cleaning out my shop and came across it last week. Close to what @wonkipop said “personally i'd consider killing to have one of these.” California car stored in hot San Fernando garage for 35 years Best Bob b ![]() |
