From the Rennsport7 archive; when the crew in the Tent says that they need 'Someone to steer the 917K several feet while they move into position>> my bud Ralph Sr. says "I know where Neutral is on that car " !

Nope...ceramic coating on headers is 90% 'Cured in the bake ovens at the contractor's facility: last 10% was cured on the 30 minute run-stand at Aase engine builders.
We just run up to temp and get the heat in engine oil up to temp, and wait for the Thermostat to cycle open to the front oil cooler.

We don't drive her on public streets, but that would heat the oil quicker.

Hey dude, wow...Congratulations! A quick question on the body work. Are those rear flares the original ones? And is it my imagination, or are those wider than the m471 supplied flares? Thanks and dang, congrats again.

Paul...your eyes are not mistaken as these fenders were prototypes, hammered over bucks by hand. Slightly wider than the oe m471 stampings , and the lower contours a bit different as well.
I checked these against my black six , converted to GT tribute in late '80s, with Factory sourced panels; Fender flare profiles + width have slight differences. Thank you for your interest

Thanks Marty, they look so cool and being original they give me permission to look closer at the pics and make my own copy. Fronts look close to the m471 flare.

As I have worked on my rear flares, I’ve been guessing at the width. I can’t change what I have but I was wondering if I have come close. If you remember the measurement from inside the wheel well to the lip of the flare? Thanks Marty

@Shivers next time we have the tires off, we can check for you. My '74 gt tribute did have the rear quarters 'Pushed outward after welded in place, in order to clear the wheel/ tire combo.
The LeMans car has factory prototype flares, that are much wider (all 4 corners) than standard gt flares (like m471) or the steel re-pops available these days.

I’m adding 2” front and rear to some m471’s with a little reshaping. Not quite like yours but they were my inspiration.

When I had the '74 flared in '89, the body shop asked if I wanted 2" more sheet metal added; but we just TiG welded the standard gt style. Worked out good (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)
