Physics informs that all things in nature follow the path of least resistance. This is why both versions of the mask are quite good at reducing outgoing as the droplet would need to somehow change direction and head for the corners which requires a force. The droplets tend to stick to the material.
On incoming the N95 usually seals pretty good but if not tight enough air can pass easily in the nose crease. After an afternoon of grinding gunk you have the dark suit lines in the crease. The other mask was only designed to stop out going, so droplets can move in fairly easy. The were designed to keep the surgical team from passing droplets into the open patient. This is why it is important for all to wear them, it makes a HUGE difference on what is airborne. The mask combined with distance and constant hand washing, testing, tracing are the only chance of reducing the time until this is calmed down and reduce the body count. Gee, I remembered something from my time teaching Micro Biology. |

Ok, One of the things I've been working on are mask coverings. There are 2 options 1- N95 cover 2 -PM2.5 cover They are sewn slightly differently. The N95 has more of a point to it. These are covers for the filters. I can get the N95 masks as shown at $5 each and the PM2.5 @$1 each They are nit included unless you want them. You may be able to buy in bulk at a better price, I'm adding nothing to the cost. The coverings are $10 each and will be made to order. Your options are the Hounds tooth in Black and white Black and blue Black and yellow Black and red May do some black and green if there is demand Also I have the plaids as shown. May be limited on some quantities of different colors 1st version is the PM2.5 shown in red houndstooth Just let me know which version you want and the color. Thanks for another innovative, creative product Mark. It’s always good to know who’s got your back. |

QUOTE No . . not the G word. I'm sorry it wasn't my fault. I was triggered by the N word. Peace out. I wish no ill will upon anyone but to suggest a healthy person walking around is a threat to anyone is the crazy idea. The burden of proof isn't upon the healty to be allowed to have a life and to earn a living. You do know what asymptomatic means, right? |

Are you sewing in a piece of wire over the nose bridge so you can form it for a tight fit? Waste of time. Cooties are very small. Coronavirus is 60-140 nano meter particle size. They will still spew in and out between the pores of the N95 filter and fabric. N95 mask material is a government efficiency rating that means the mask blocks about 95 percent of particles that are 0.3 microns in size or larger. Notice that isn't 100% blockage even under ideal conditions of use. 0.3 microns = 300 nano meters. Therefore Corona virus is 1/2 the size of what a N95 filter is able to filter. 0.3 micrometer of filtration assumes you have a PERFECT seal around the entire perimeter of the mask which isn't possible. Of course, if you have a beard, or stubble, be sure to shave that too. Otherwise what little mask seal you have is further compromised. I agree these masks are not intended to seal like a true medical grade N95 mask and may not completely protect us if someone with the COVID virus were right in our face sneezing but they are certainly not a waste of time and may give a high level of protection for ourselves and especially others. I'm curious where you get your information. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/stirthepot.gif) Below is off the CDC website: The virus that causes COVID-19 is approximately 0.125 micron (125 nanometers) in diameter. It falls squarely within the particle-size range that HEPA filters capture with extraordinary efficiency: 0.01 micron (10 nanometers) and above. Many media outlets have incorrectly stated that HEPA filters don’t filter below 0.3 micron and therefore could not capture airborne coronaviruses. That is flat wrong. (This NASA study of HEPA filtration is quite technical, but the graph on page 7 and the preceding paragraph do a good job of explaining why HEPA filters are actually most efficient—almost 100 percent at 0.01 micron—at capturing ultrafine particles below the 0.3-micron HEPA test standard.) |

In SoCal, wearing a mask is nothing more than virtue signaling. We've been sold a pandemic when the numbers have been fudged and don't add up. If you are still wearing a mask, then you are falling for a media charade IMHO.
They finally opened the beaches here. There is probably no healthier place on earth you could be than in the hot sun, sand, and saltwater. Go figure. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/screwy.gif) |

You have absolutely no concern for your fellow Americans while consuming propaganda from scientific illiterate "news" outlets on YouTube. You have been regurgitating outlandish conspiracy theories from your beach front apartment and compared your inability to surf the waves to the horror of the holocaust. I have no words for your complete disconnect with reality ... (IMG:style_emoticons/default/dry.gif) |

Don't misplace your frustration with me onto him. I'm the backward redneck in middle of America that can't do math. At what point will you be willing to admit that the preditions of 2 million+ dead from COVID havn't materialized? |

Just because you missed Larmo's tirades in the Sandbox doesn't mean they didn't happen. You do realize that all those months of lockdown were put in place precisely so those numbers would not be realized? That is quite literally the point of lockdowns and social distancing, to reduce the number of ill and dead. You are trying to use the fact that is is working to prove that it wasn't necessary in the first place. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/screwy.gif) |

This thread is another political hot potato that will bring out the worst in our community.
I am disappointed. I am not going to close it, but another admin might. I'd simply ask people not to respond. |

I'm not down for the politics of the situation.
But if you want a mask let me know. I'm just trying to make something that if you choose to at least allows you to do so in style (IMG:style_emoticons/default/beerchug.gif) |

... The point is that life is inherently dangerous. Motality is guranteed at 100%. None of us are going to escape death. The idea that anyting we can do to "keep us safe" is fundamentally flawed and is a premise that cannot be accepted in a free society. Other ideas to keep us safe and reduce deaths: etc... Dude, you must be the life of the party. |
