This is the 5th time I've owned a 914 in my life thus far. First with a 914xxx VIN. For me, this is the car I've always wanted. It suits my eye just right!
And because of that - I'm going to make an effort to properly document it's history and the modest tinkering I attempt on the car. Please feel free to comment, give advice, encourage, or post pics that add to the thread (just remember this isn't the sandbox and my kids might see this someday (IMG:style_emoticons/default/happy11.gif) ) EDIT - Goals and Objectives; GT 6 clone that is fun driving, protect and preserve, address areas that need restoration or improvement, finally only tasteful accepted modifications that won't diminish the overall value. Task list *Engine rebuild (start off with the easy one (IMG:style_emoticons/default/dry.gif) ) *New wheels and tires *New exhaust *Tribute decals *Rotate seats *Source and Instal passenger mirror *Front hood pins *Rear hood latches *Cibie hood fog lights *Rear valance *Address paint in engine bay *Upgrade headlights to LED *Add LED to instrument cluster *Replace carpeting *Change radio *Swap bumpers for tribute fiberglass two tone paint *Rekey all locks the same * End Edit A few facts about me first:
Sold on BAT https://www.flickr.com/photos/37210452@N06/...157628092486963 When I bought it here on the world http://www.914world.com/bbs2/index.php?sho...341050&st=0 Around the time I bought it. Historical content. http://www.914world.com/bbs2/index.php?sho...341417&st=0 Here's to the day I got it home last December. |

Congrats, Ben!
This is only the best 914 I've driven (drove it not long after it sold on BaT), and I love your approach to owning it—and your view on life. Will be following along... (IMG:style_emoticons/default/beerchug.gif) |

Great looking car. I'm curious to see how those 8s and 9s fit Good luck, keep us posted Thank you. I'm planning on having the new wheels under the car the week after next. I'll take pictures and post. I'm thinking 245 50's on the rear and 225 60's on the front. Not sure exactly why that combo seems to be so popular but it is. Really not sure why 60's in the front. Seems like a lower profile in the front would 'look' better (IMG:style_emoticons/default/confused24.gif) |

Dave at Triad was kind enough to expedite an exhaust for me. Turn around time was a mere two weeks and we were able to beat our deadline. He was a pleasure to work with and I couldn't be happier. My second exhaust from him and I love the way they look and sound.
When the car goes to dyno with the rebuild it will have the proper exhaust! Hopefully this is happening next week. |

Beautiful Ride (IMG:style_emoticons/default/aktion035.gif) Just dropped my GT Tribute off at the body Shop Friday for some fresh Signal Orange. We will have to go driving someday soon (IMG:style_emoticons/default/driving.gif)

Ben, thanks for the great review. Dyno should be interesting, what do you think the stats would be just based on the build ?.... Hope you kept some of my stickers too.

Dave, I'll absolutely keep your stickers and find a good spot for them. With the exception of my 'elevate' logo, I'm going for a #2 car but I'll find a good spot. I've no idea what to expect from the Dyno but I'll talk to Alan from A&P Specialties and ask for feedback. You do great work and I appreciate the efforts to pull this together for me! OK. It's time to shine some light on this thing. Pic is of one light changed to LED and the other left stock for illustrative purposes. Headlights up first and then turn signals, brake lights and running lights. Good to have it back in the garage and excited to get all the nooks and crannies explored. |
