Should be a air filter on top but with porsches or vws
Its worse . as in who put all that shit on top Of my beautiful engine ? Carb guy talking here But f.i is technically superior as a carb cannot sniff the exausht 100x a second and adjust mixture 100x a second for all conditions . So who cares about looks |

And add a 100 lbs barbell.
And yes, fi is more superior when running. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/hide.gif) |

Yup, that picture is absolutely correct!
But, 21st Century FI is so vastly superior to carbs. I will likely never go back to carbs again in a Porsche. |

hahaha, yes ! I came from a pre-67 VW hobby...never injectionparts on any car. Then 'did' a VW T2b 2.0 type4 injected motor...first injection in my hobbycars. It was a big puzzle. Looked in my mind like your picture ! wow...hard to master, but worked out ! Then I figured...next step a Porsche.....staying close to the VWs the 914 was a 'logical' choice since the earlier Porsches were (financilally) out of reach. And of course I bought a D-jet...agian it was all new, but I learned a lot, but that picture still represents the feeling for it...at least the first months. Now I am used t it a bit and no...your picture does not represent my FI anymore (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

Original picuture is true IMHO. Original 914 FI was sort of a maze of wires and vacuum hoses. Modern FI not nearly as ugly.
Can't beat the clean look of carbs but the simple fact is that FI has proven itself to be the winner both for emissions and performance. Persoanlly I prefere ITB FI -- best of both worlds. Looks like a nice clean set of carbs. Has the wonderful induction sound of carbs. Performs like modern FI. Mabye someday I'll spring for the DubShop kit. |

Generally I HATE carburation but have to deal with it on 356s and early 911s and 914-6 models, and do successfully, when factory equipped and the carbs are clean and not too badly worn, they work well. The worst thing is trying to start a carbed car after sitting awhile. The lean back fire always scares me

@mlindner ....first I thought you had this (beautiful) engine on the 3rd floor of your house, so you could look at it all day. I now realize the houses 'in the window' are actually miniatures (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) hahaha

More carb and twin plug porn. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)
I agree with the OP picture, I was that way then I learned to fix FI and started playing with SDS. For the /6 I got a smoking deal on the carbs and the twin plug dizzy, it's a bit thirsty but runs smooth as silk. I thought I'd switch to FI one day, but right now I don't really have a reason to switch. BTW I'm driving my 914 the sound is orgasmic. All I can say is that carbs have never left me stranded. My DME injection has left me stranded or has been flakey on and off. When it works, it's much better than carbs. Better gas mileage, more smoother, starts right up, adjusts for altitude, etc.
Carbs pro's are better sound, more reliable (less components to fail) and looks cooler!! ITB's are the future for fuel injection, but still too costly. |

There is a big difference between a /4 and /6 on carbs, the /4 is a lot more finicky to small changes and the linkage has to be bang on. The six can be out a bit and still run sort of OK.

Carbs suck. And i find my FI intake more visually pleasing.
Plus, i can drive from the beach up into the Sierra's and turn the car off, go for a walk, come back and have it start right up on the first turn of the key. No problem. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/popcorn[1].gif) |

Working with this engine for my 914. The sound, throttle response, and aesthetics of carbs, with the modern accuracy of fuel injection. ITBs
