After installing the 123Distributor and turning the body CCW until the green light turns on this is where the rotor and #1 plug wire line up at TDC. Since the rotor turns clockwise it's already passed the #1 plug wire. Does it have to be pointing exactly at #1 plug or just in the general area to start the engine?

You have to put the 5 deg timing mark in the V ( or 7.5 )
it is before the 0 TDC mark Depending on your engine and fan there should be timing marks at 27 BTDC, 5 BTDC and 0 TDC. I think on a 1.8 the marks are at 7.5 BTDC. and 27 BTDC Someone will correct me if I am wrong. You could just advance it a little to get it started and then set the timing with a timing light @ 27 btdc 3000 rpm |
