Hi, about 15 years ago when my father and I went to pick up his 914-6. There were two motors for picking up, the original and the 901/16.
Yesterday I decided to clean this motor up and pull the top and off. To my surprise it appeared to be a fresh rebuild, the pistons still had marker numbers on them. At what temperature do you think the marker would burn off of the piston tops? I have included a few pictures. It appears to be older oil pump, case was resealed, new seals in the end. The bottom ends spins freely, chains and guides look new. I’m having a hard time deciding whether I should split the case, or just take some good measurements clean it up and put it back together. I would have to have a lot of hope in the previous person to just assume they put the case back together correctly.(I never met him or her).....Attached Image Attached ImageAttached ImageAttached Image[attachmentid=765
