I guess it isn't fair to call the guy a dick just for trying to make a buck and (to my knowledge) there were no shady dealings here. I just hate seeing people trying to squeeze every dollar out of a car and pricing a lot of enthusiasts out of the hobby but what can you do? Maybe UNICEF will get into the Porsche business

I guess it isn't fair to call the guy a dick just for trying to make a buck and (to my knowledge) there were no shady dealings here. Definitely not fair, especially since this isn’t the sort of car that prices people out. This is probably more of a comment on the air-cooled market in general. I guess the "value" is relative and even at the new price there is likely value for someone (def more value than some similarly priced 911's) but 90k is a lot of money no matter which way you slice it. I will be the first to say I don't have 90k kicking around for an extra car and I'm sure I'm not alone. Prices are up which is great for some people but is prohibitive for others. I am currently the latter. Bottom line, prices are up, this car rules, someone got a good deal and is going to make a buck, I'm not a buyer, wish I was, the free market is what it is. |

That didn’t take long. Say what you will about flippers … it was sold between educated adults and the new owner has the right to do whatever he wants with his car. Agreed, but the pre-sale hype story did not match the outcome, and that was unexpected. Well I agree that there seems to be a lack of integrity from the buyer. Too bad he won’t get to experience the great 914 community. |

Agreed, but the pre-sale hype story did not match the outcome, and that was unexpected. I think that's what is rubbing me the wrong way here. This thing was listed here for a very good price with the intention (at least it seemed to me) of keeping it in the enthusiast community. It was purchased under the guise of being a keeper by an undoubted enthusiast and then pops up real fast for a 35% mark-up. I like a flip as much as the next person but I try not to do it under the guise of it being a keeper. I also don't have his kind of reputation to throw around either. Hopefully the next owner will get a break on the new price and join this great community. |

I would agree that it’s not good hygiene to misrepresent your intentions in anyway when buying or selling but I’m not sure we should be in the business of telling someone what they can do with their money.

Well I agree that there seems to be a lack of integrity from the buyer. Too bad he won’t get to experience the great 914 community. Well said. If there's any consolation, he still ain't sold it. That's really the only way to curb flipping, just don't buy it and let him think about his money being tied up and the possibility of no ROI. It's such a shame too, because it's an incredible car. Belongs with someone who's going to take care of her. Dan |

He listed it on eBay for 88k. Even if he gets the full amount, he will only see 77k after eBay fees. There is still an opportunity for a 914world member to approach him separately outside of eBay and get it closer to the after fee amount.

I just sold 2 vehicles in the last couple months on eBay. |
