Ferg pipe in....
ferg is pretty close to tom and gets work done there from time to time. Tom is the real deal always a little pricey, but honorable and has been in the business for 40 years or so... he is a pretty amazing guy. Used to drive panamerica and a 4cylinder twin cam guru. In fact he has an old bmw motorcycle chassis with a real 4 cam motor in it. Not a cheap place though... (unless your ferg and you get the discount rate!... just kidding mike) brant |

I live in Fort Collins, CO j ust down the road from Boulder, and have done a lot of business with Tom Conway, the owner of Carquip. His speciality is rebuilding transaxles although he will do almost any mechanical repair to Porsches and he also has a wonderfull warehouse full of used and some new Porsche parts, 356, 911, 914 and some 924. I have made close to twenty purchases from him and never had a problem. Several people that I know have had their transaxles rebuilt at his place and they work great. His primary interests are in 911 and 356 cars. He also does work on some local race cars and owns one himself and sells parts worldwide. He knows his business and I would recommend him without any hesitation, but he is also expensive.

cool deal, thanks guys!
the prices are in my ballpark if at the upper end; i don't mind (much) paying the prices for quality, if that's what i'm getting. they've come back with a counteroffer that is probably too good to resist, and since the reports back have been good, i may hafta pull the trigger on this deal. it's a lot of money, but it's a really cool part... |

Yup, I drive by everyday and stop at least once a week. Tom the owner is a amazing source of knowledge. He does charge a premium but in my experience has always backed it up with customer service and knowledge. He's been in the parts game for a very very long time, and it shows. My advice is to talk to Tom personally, ask specific questions about the product your looking at (what parts are new/used) , and be patient with him, for replys ect and it should go well.
And i've seen the 4 cam motor bmw bike run, but right now it's in peices again. Ferg. |

Several years ago, I bought various fairly hard-to-find early 70's 911 & 914 parts from them and was 100% satisfied, FWIW. Condition was exactly as described, and shipping was quick. Ya get what ya pay for, as they say.

Tom's been there and back... more than once. I've bought several odds and ends from Carquip. If I need something expensive though, I send Ferg over there. (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/wink.gif)
