F1 ain't for the masses any more. Hell, maybe it wasn't ever...

(IMG:style_emoticons/default/beerchug.gif) the chair is where i watch the melbourne F1 race from.
at the track sucks.
20 years ago it was ok at the track. not now.

F1 at Adelaide in the 80s was a phase still for the masses.
the crowd was 90% masses who loved the smell of petrol in the morning.
brilliant event.
turbo cars. senna. mansell. and BERGER.

-----

these days i try and get to bathurst for the 12 hour enduro.
there is no track like it anywhere.
much much much better than anything F1 can dish out.
+ you camp at the track. more or less still the LeMans style experience of the 60s and 70s.
making plans for next feb now.

be only too happy.

texans are top of my list of human beings. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/beerchug.gif)
followed closely by all other USA human beings.

you ain't seen nothing until you see one of those euro enduro class porsches come over sky-line and drop through the esses to the dipper.
the corkscrew at laguna seca is good. but bathurst is one insane notch up from that.

this year we are taking the daughter of the man who provided and prepared the devil's # monaro (#13) that won in 68. she is pretty excited about going. she has never been.
she will be royalty on pit row but she does not know it yet. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

bit of an expedition even for me.
2 day drive if you don't want to share the road with roos at sunset.
2 days up. 3 days there. 2 days back.

but i don't wish to detract from the thread of the spectacle of F1 at vegas.
suspect that @VegasRacer is really going to enjoy himself.
also suspect that the televised spectacle of night time vegas and F1 is going to be pretty good in the transmitted visual world - regardless of on track experience.

to me the track in Austin looks pretty darned good.
but of course i am judging it off TV.

i did watch interlagos last week. that was heaps fun to watch. go Alonso!
all the action is further back this year. numero uno M V is kind off in a lonely world that is kind of boring at the front. but back a few places and its all action. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/beerchug.gif)

This schedule is pure madness...times are ET.

11/16 11:25 p.m. Practice 1
11/17 2:55 a.m. Practice 2
11/17 11:25 p.m. Practice 3
11/18 2:55 a.m. Qualifying
11/18 11:30 p.m. 8:30 p.m. Pre-race
11/19 12:55 a.m. Las Vegas Grand Prix

I'll definitely be watching that Sunday afternoon. Madness.

They're predicting to possibly set a record for the LOWEST air temperature in the history of F1...might be as fun to watch as if it was raining...

I have Good News and I have Bad News. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/WTF.gif)

The Good News: I am no longer part of the F & C (Flagging & Communications) Crew. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smilie_flagge24.gif)
I have been reassigned to be an Intervention Marshall. My new responsibilities will put me on the Hot Track in Full Nomex gear as a First Responder to extinguish fires, extract drivers, push/load disabled cars and clear bits of carbon fiber, wings, wheels and all other foreign objects from the racing surface.
Attached Image

The Bad News: All Photography (including cellphones) is Strictly Prohibited anytime the Track is Hot. If caught, they would pull my credentials and escort me from the event. (I love you guys, but not that much.)

At least you don't have to worry about Major Spin (Mazepin). I swear he could crash a wheelchair while sitting still.

Let's not forget the King, Andrea De Crasheris, errr De Ceasaris. I believe it was Guy Ligier (Team Ligier) that fired him on the spot after Andrea walked back to the pits after a rollover crash, stating "I can no longer afford to employ this man".

Then there was Crashtor...err Pastor Maldonado...didn't he have his own website, something like "where did Pastor crash today..."?

And You forgot "Hunt the Shunt"

Here's a different list, with videos: https://www.goodwood.com/grr/f1/the-five-mo...one-f1-drivers/
