Here's Jake's info page on the kits. Take a look and give him a call. I'm sure he would be more than happy to fill in all the details. |

Camshaft. The stick with bumps along it that tells the valves when to open, how far to open, when to close, and how fast to do all of that. It's waaaaay down in the middle of the engine, so you have to tear the whole engine apart to replace it. But you have to do that to replace the crankshaft with the one that gives you a 71mm stroke measurement anyway, so it's almost free.
I don't know what's included with Jake's kits. But I'd be surprised if it wasn't all of the parts and sealants you need to assemble an engine--assuming you still keep all the fasteners and engine tin and such from the old engine. You'll have to find carbs for it (yow, 34s?) and supply the exhaust too... --DD |

Ah..I'm learning. (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/wink.gif) So Webers can't be bought new anymore? Any other carbs that would work well? Are you guys sure it's as easy as you make it sound? My dad would help me for sure, but he doesn't know much either. I mean he changed the clutch and adjusted his valves on his bug when he was younger, but that's it. I don't want to be left stranded with no idea what to do.

just shoot me an email when you're in the area ... as for assembling an engine, some basic mechanic skills and the right tools and jakes VIDEO will go a long way ... but having someone around who has done it before would be a tremendous help ... attention to detail is the key ... Hhmm.. sounds good. Really leaning towards the kit now. I know a mechanic who can probably help me assemble it together. Is it extremely labor intensive to put together, or not so bad?

Engine assembly is not at all labor intensive. If you have ALL the parts and tools it can be done in a day. In an afternoon if you've done it before. |

doesn't matter "what" they are set up for right now, changing jets and vents is SUPER easy!! or, you can get the 2270 kit from jake (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/wink.gif) 78.4 x 96mm!! (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/smilie_pokal.gif) little more $$ though... |

(IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif) haha. Think i'll go for the 2056. But 44's wouldn't be too big right? Is changing the jets and ventris "super easy" as in, something I could do myself?

super easy as in if I can do it, ANYONE can... I rebuilt my 40s, changed the vents and jets in an afternoon while drinking iced tea with my wife on the patio... and mine were super dirty and I spent MOST of that time cleaning them up with B-12 carb cleaner(gud shit!) 44s will not be too big... the vents on my 40s are full blown, can't make them larger... 44s will be FINE!
