Working with a set of 88 Carrera Strut housing that have the somewhat odd
exterior threading for the cap.
Who thought this setup was a good idea?
Is there a replacement cap that will allow the use of the thicker shaft Bilstein inserts?

It’s possible that new Bilstein inserts will come with suitable caps?

Yes you have to order them for the specific housing(strut inserts and nut).

That’s what I have in my car

Depending on where you order them, the new caps will come with the inserts. They will have a 2mm gap when screwed down. That's normal and designed into the cap.

I remove them with a pipe wrench and throw them away. I think they are oem only and probably installed with a machine.

Just played this game. Ended up finding a set on the bird board. I believe I was able to locate the part number. FCP Euro wasn't interested in helping me.

I think the answer is to order 911 inserts.

Here it is. I may have searched for the listing. I paid $55.00 total
I just found the what may be the the bilstein part number. B4-B36-U252B. I don't recall seeing a part number on the gland nuts that I received.

Bilstein contact info:858-386-5900. Gland nut B4-B36-U252A for Boge strut with outside thread.
