Like Adam, we’ve purchased some big part stashes. It’s expensive to move and store. Our last big haul, from a shop in Texas, we left all the 914 parts that weren’t from a six. Crawling around a loft in Texas heat, packing up, loading the trucks, driving up to PA, unloading, unpacking, sorting, etc. - the novelty wears off and anything that isn’t needed or profitable is just surplus. If you’ve ever paid money to store parts, you realize at a certain point, it’s more profitable to throw them away than to store and try to sell.
The guy with 50 of each - empty transmission cases, hoods, struts and trailing arms in their possession is just delaying the inevitable trip to the metal recycling yard. |

Yeah, you know how it is, long and hard. The trick to TX is do it in the winter, it isn't so bad. This was a guy whose dad was the SW Distributor for Porsche until the early 70's, the warehouse was almost all NOS stuff, we loaded the whole U-Haul, every inch. Those are the stashes you want, lots of little NOS pieces, not big take offs of cars that rarely go bad. Like the time I went to guy's place and he had a who loft of 944 rear hatches, he said it's all money! Attached thumbnail(s) |
