We’ve also altered the route from lunch to include the Hawks Nest along the Delaware. Then thru the mountains to Hunter Mountain. If the weather isn’t cooperating we can go directly to Hunter from lunch.

I'd been hoping for an early departure tomorrow to beat the heat for most of the drive, but work has had other plans. Probably get there around 8 or 9 tomorrow night.

Shout out to 914rubber for being there for me. Had leaky headlights (literally goldfish bowls) and 914rubber sent me new ones so fast I was able to use them to get to the gathering. Through storms, torrential downpours, and crazy crazy fog (arrived at midnight). Thank you! @mikey914

Heavy rain; scorching heat. Another typical NEG! Missing it greatly.

Likewise, was hoping to at least make the drive today, meeting some new people, and buying Ralph a couple (IMG:style_emoticons/default/beer3.gif) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/beer3.gif)

Especially since my steering lock/ignition switch repair worked out.

Can’t say it enough, if you’re over 45 (even if there’s no family history) get your colonoscopy if you’re due. Would have made an incredible difference had I done so.

Now, how bout some pics boys?? (IMG:style_emoticons/default/beerchug.gif)

Thanks for the shout out. We do our best.
Yes, tgese lights make a HUGE diferece. I waa using mine last night in central Oregon. I turn them on when it starts to get dusk. I was almost merged into by a Honda yesterday, but pretty sure the reason he pulled back was the lights!

We had the typical rain and heat to contend with but still had a great time. Most are home safe now. We had one gearbox go out and a bad fuel pump and one late night rescue of Zach. The venue was great and the roads were fantastic. Thanks to all of our sponsors!!!

Sorry I missed it, but family activities took precedence. The photos look amazing, Travis. I'm sure it was all very well organized (IMG:style_emoticons/default/thumb3d.gif)

I hope someone kept Ralph in line in my absence (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

In roughly chronological order...

Loading up Friday afternoon in the back yard. Trying to keep the car out of the sun. It was hot out.
(IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/uploads_offsite/live.staticflickr.com-1435-1719236233.1.jpg)

The drive from York up past Harrisburg along 82 was HOT. But I found motivation. If I went a little faster, maybe I could catch a cold one.
(IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/uploads_offsite/live.staticflickr.com-1435-1719236234.2.jpg)

"THE STOP" We stopped at this diner along I-82 for dinner Friday. The parking lot was a steep hill and rocky. It snagged a wire on the way out that my ECU needed to run properly (the COOLANT wire - which just monitors engine temps via the stock oil temp sensor location under the engine.) Did the last 130 miles of the drive running pig rich, the car missing randomly going down the road. I was SURE it was bad gas, as we filled the tank across the street from the dinner location.
(IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/uploads_offsite/live.staticflickr.com-1435-1719236235.3.jpg)

There is a gas station right next to the hotel. Like under mile away. Still thinking my issue was bad gas, we stop in to fill up. Alas, they had closed and the pumps were all turned off. No problem, there was a station about a mile back. Turn the key, NO START. DAMMIT. Called @Eric_Shea . He was at WCR at a bar, with Larry Phillips. Took the call, and got me looking at the right place. About 5 minutes later I found the broken wire under the car. But I didn't have wire, crimpers, or connectors in my spare parts kit. Sent a text to the crew at the Hotel and the Rescue Rangers were on the way. Travis had wire bits needed, repair done the car was back to running awesome. The manager at the gas station would not turn on the lights for us while we worked, but he came out and talked while fixed the broken wire.
(IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/uploads_offsite/live.staticflickr.com-1435-1719236235.4.jpg)

Next morning we lined up for the drive.
We did three run groups this year - Leisurely, Fast and Felony (my names, there were different "official" names given to the run groups). I joined the fast group being led by Dave. This worked really well, I thought. The smaller groups were easier to keep together.
(IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/uploads_offsite/live.staticflickr.com-1435-1719236235.5.jpg)
(IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/uploads_offsite/live.staticflickr.com-1435-1719236236.6.jpg)

The drive this year was spectacular. While in theory we all did the same drive, we kept running into other run groups going the other way down the road. (LOL). Our group ended up doing about 120ish miles of canyon carving and then broke for the lunch stop. We skipped the covered bridges. We got to the lunch stop first, followed by the Felony group and then the Leisurely group about 40 minutes later.
(IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/uploads_offsite/live.staticflickr.com-1435-1719236236.7.jpg)
(IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/uploads_offsite/live.staticflickr.com-1435-1719236236.8.jpg)
(IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/uploads_offsite/live.staticflickr.com-1435-1719236237.9.jpg)

In Theory, all the cars were supposed to be able to meet up a couple times during the drive for pics, fuel, etc. The first one happened, with the Fast group getting there ahead of the other two groups. The gas station employees were pretty thrilled to see us all pull up and hang out there for a few minutes.
(IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/uploads_offsite/live.staticflickr.com-1435-1719236237.10.jpg)
(IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/uploads_offsite/live.staticflickr.com-1435-1719236237.11.jpg)
(IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/uploads_offsite/live.staticflickr.com-1435-1719236238.12.jpg)

When next we saw everyone, it was lunchtime. The lunch spot was good! And it kept us out of the little thunderstorms that kept blowing through.
(IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/uploads_offsite/live.staticflickr.com-1435-1719236238.13.jpg)

After that we had options. The hotel, a pool, and air conditioning were only 20 minutes away. Or you could opt for another 90 minutes of canyon carving. Amy and I opted for the hotel, with plans for the pool that turned into a nap.

Then Cocktails and dinner, tech sessions and the raffle. With 2 German cars mid restoration at home, we put our tickets into the cloth covered electrical tape, and ended up winning almost all of it. Between the bus (full replacement harness) and the Rabbit I bet we use it all.

During all that, a HUGE thunderstorm blew in. I ran downstairs to get the umbrella cover back on my car, but it was too late. The monsoon was blowing. So instead I sat and drank wine in the lobby for a bit with the guys. We called Lenny up and and talked to him for a bit.

Sunday morning the cars were SOAKED. The storm didn't last all night, but it was so humid that the water never dried up. I had hoped to leave at around 7AM to beat the heat going home. But we spent about 45 minutes pulling the carpet out of the car, sopping up water in the foot wells, and drying out the engine bay a bit. Lesson learned - put the damn umbrella cover on every damn night! With the carpet in the oven (the rear trunk) to dry, we set off for home.
(IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/uploads_offsite/live.staticflickr.com-1435-1719236238.14.jpg)

We did the 274 mile drove back home on a single tank, moving pretty fast. Filled up the tank near the house with about 1/4 tank remaining, and my 2.3 got about 24mpg during the drive back home - all freeway save about 20 miles at the start of the drive and 20 miles at the end of the drive. Got home around noon and had the car packed up and put away by 1. NICE!

We did have one weird failure on the way home, which I noticed when I got gas at the end of the trip. One of my hood pins unbolted itself during the drive home. Never had that happen before. The nut and washers are somewhere under the spare tire.

The fog coming up the mountain Friday night was intense! Wet road, DARK, VERY foggy, no cell signal, and my car missing and sputtering due to that dumb broken wire. That part of the drive Friday wasn't a lot of fun for me.

It was amazing to do the drive the next day and see the road in daylight. May as well have been a totally different road!

Zach, Thanks for sharing the pics and adventure stories. Glad you figured out the broken wire thing fairly quickly.

Anyone know what color blue this is? I like it.

IMO that car rivaled Dave's car for prettiest 914. I was told the color on Saturday, but it has slipped through the swiss cheese in my head by now. Phenomenal car though.
