> Door hinge bolts, I need to get a few extra bolts and then maybe just replace all of them. Where do I buy these?

Hi. I keep finding more hardware that should be re-zinc plated I think sending this out to PMB is the right call for me lately.

This week question, where do I find replacement door, hinge bolts, or even replacement hinges? Does it all come as a set or can I just buy the bolts?

Also, the front hood and back deck hinge shoulder bolt hardware(I think that’s what it’s called). Does anyone know where that hardware is available?

Thanks again
Dad also likes the comments about wearing the proper PPE and safety gear

Thank you for your time answering back!

The door hinge to body bolts are identical to Beetle body to chassis bolts: https://www2.cip1.com/vwc-111-898-001/

So my dad is a retired surgeon. He told me from a young age to pay attention to your fingers and the rest of you will probably be in good shape. Technology has come a long way but back in his day, he said reattaching fingers was 50/50 at best. and of course eye protection because you only have two. I'm not trying to be gross or overdramatic but a little care goes a long way. My daughter just started a carpentry job and I passed my dad's advice to her.

I have a pretty good stash of parts (some already plated) so if you need anything, you or your dad can pm me and I'll send it out. No charge.

I find this site particularly easy for locating specifics about parts, small and large, for our cars.

Those door hinge bolts are painted body color after the doors are mounted not zinc plated.

We try to zinc plate parts that then get painted because east coast humidity is a killer.

WOW again your kind responses are great here.
I had all 12 bolts. I only have a bag of 6 so something tells me there is another baggie with 6 more in a cardboard box in the huge stack of parts. I am digging for it.
I will sand these down and get them painted.

Thanks for the catalog links and shoulder bolt link- also the VW hinge bolt link too.

Learning lots from you all here!

A wire wheel installed on a hand drill is your friend. It will remove both the rust and the paint w/o removing the steel material from the bolt. Do not use electric or pneumatic grinders as the rpm's are too high and the wheel will through metal darts at you. Fast and much easier than sanding plus it will get into tight spots better than sand paper. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/beerchug.gif)

(IMG:style_emoticons/default/agree.gif) on wire wheel vs. sanding. Sandblasting would be best but assume you don’t have access to a blast cabinet.

I love seeing you work on your car (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smilie_pokal.gif)

I’m going to again mention PPE again because I’m not sure what your or your fathers background is. Sadly, most schools have completely eliminated industrial education which is where a lot of tool usage and proper safety was taught when I was your age.

Wire wheels are a great tool but are dangerous. They can fling parts right out of your hand in a millisecond with great force. Wire wheels also throw off wire projectiles at high velocity as the wires fatigue and break off out of the wheel even when used in a drill.

Wear PPE including a full face shield when using a wire wheel. Safety glasses may protect your eyes but it’s no fun having a wire flung into your exposed face. Lots of videos out there on how to use the wheel and where the safe portion of the wheel is.

Be careful and have fun!!

I replated all those parts. Thats what I posted in your other thread. I determined the originals were fine since they were only tightened once… in 1974.

I also made a video on how I handled door alignment, without actually having to align the door from scratch.

Ah, the joy of digging through the boxes for parts. No matter how good your sorting, storage, and inventory, some will go missing, at least until the project is done. And at least one will remain hidden until a year or two later.

My pet peeve was losing track of the new stuff I bought, buying a second version, and later--you guessed it--finding the first one I bought.

Yep, know the feeling...
It's actually worse when it's one of your favorite Snap On ratchets!
$195 and you find it later because one of your buddies PUT IT UP in the wrong drawer!
(IMG:style_emoticons/default/chair.gif) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/chair.gif) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/chair.gif) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/chair.gif) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/chair.gif)

I have a rule for my shop buddies because of this.
DO NOT PUT TOOLS UP!
Just dump them in a pile in front of my boxes...

A "note" on finishing a project car.
Every single time a friend has said "cars done" it REALLY, REALLY was...
One was destroyed by an errant station wagon.
Another was stolen.
Another lost in a garage fire.

I'm a tiny bit superstitious regarding "finishing" a project car because of these.

You will end up doing something else to it anyway; some future mod will always happen.
Saying it's done seems to insult Mr. Murphy!
I will NEVER say a car is done...

Maybe a little late but..

When doing my car, I labeled the boxes, A, B, C, D, etc and kept a notebook with all the parts listed in each box, then when I needed something, Just look through the book to find which box it was in.

I’m not very organized but at least I can easily see what I have. Cheap harbor freight boxes.

I’m good for about 3/4. There’s some small stuff that came out of the car but I’ll have to ask PET where it goes back, if at all. The nice thing about hot rod cars is you don’t have to follow the rules.

Just Wow

Older guy stuff with nothing better to do. If you need anything, just let me know and I’ll send it to you.
Here on the east coast, everything comes out of the car crusty and corroded so there’s not much choice but to refinish the parts.
