Those of us who have L-Jet know about, or are someday going to get a hard lesson in, this dual relay. It is a weak point in the system, and when it fails you are dead in the water. Surprisingly to me given how many vehicles use this dual relay they are no longer made. The last one I bought in mid 2023 I got on Amazon for $65. A search now shows almost everyone is out of stock. Suppliers that do have it are asking a premium. I have a friend with a 1978 Super Beetle that needs this relay so if you have a working one for sale please let me know. Primarily I'm looking for non-functional relays in an effort to see if they can be fixed and learn how to fix them. I'll be working with a friend who we all describe as an "electrical savant" who is willing to donate his time to diagnose, fix, and pass on his knowledge. I intend to post what I learn in the Garage, and maybe even take on future repairs for fellow World members.

Please let me know what you have and what you want for them. Most will have a part number 0 332 514 020, 0 332 514 029, or something similar. Early ones may be metal, later ones have a black plastic case.

5/14/2024 - UPDATE: Well, this did not pan out as I was able to get exactly zero dead relays! However, I found a source for this Bosch relay using an alternative part number. It is a foreign supplier with back stock. I ordered one just to make sure it was identical, and it is. I'll test it in my car sometime in the next few days, but I see no reason why it won't work. I can order enough to pass on if people are interested. If I get a bunch I should be able to pass them on for under $100 shipped in the CONUS. Far cheaper than a pre-tax price of $325 from AA, or $459.99 on eBay (unbelievably it appears they have sold a few at that price). I believe I can get up to 10, depending upon what is left. If there is enough interest I'll buy them all. PM or post if you are interested. Might be our last chance to get these Bosch relays.

Another part number is Beck/Arnley 203-0053. GO to Ratwell.com He has a section on the diagrams for the relay.

Yup, I have already been to Ratwell.com. There are also instructions for using other relays to make this relay. I wasn't aware of the alternative part number, but that is still an NLA relay..... The Bus relay can be used, but you have to change the pin location. That relay is also NLA. I believe Clay Perrine can provide the instructions on how to modify the Bus relay. Trying to put all of this into one place, hopefully repair a few relays, and help others do so. We'll see (IMG:style_emoticons/default/confused24.gif)

Bump for update. Now also posted in the Garage forum.

I would be interested in a few if it is a direct swap for the 022906059/0332514102 part number. I was able to acquire a known good used dual relay as a back up in a L-Jet mini repair/roadside (comprised of a dual relay, cht sensor, thermo time switch and injector resistor pack) kit from Jeff Bowlsby a little while back now. I keep the kit with me just in case. I can also drive to your location to pick up to save on shipping as it says your somewhere in the East Bay.

@L-Jet914

A Jeff Bowlsby sourced LJet road repair kit is an awesome thing to have! I'm going to ask Jeff about them. I doubt he has them anymore, but it's a great idea to have one.

I'll attach some pictures to clarify, but the 0332514102 is the original metal box relay that came with our cars. This was then superseded by Bosch relay 0332514120, which is cased in a black plastic box. Because the 914 relay connectors are not a straight fit into the Bosch relay you do have to trim the case a bit. This is the relay you will now pretty much find in every LJet car as almost all the original metal box relays have failed by now. The relay I have been able to source is a Bosch relay and is identical to 0332514120, just with a different part number that cross references to 0332514120. I think the difference in part numbers is simply because it was distributed in a different country and was a replacement for an LJet system in a different car (IMG:style_emoticons/default/confused24.gif) . Just a theory, but it makes sense. It is NOT a Chinese made relay and it is a genuine Bosch product (made in Italy). To be cautious I ordered one relay to make sure, and it is identical in every way and works perfectly in my car (1975 1.8). The source I found is selling off back stock. I have now ordered 15 of them, and this is probably all I'll be able to get. They should be here in a few weeks. If you want one please post in the thread in the garage forum. It is just an indicator of interest, so I'm not asking anyone to pay up front. We can settle up at the time the relays get here, and if you have changed your mind by then there will be no ill will. At the moment I believe I have 2 unclaimed relays. I know I'm taking a risk, but it's one way of giving back, which seems to be the overall spirit of most of us in this forum. Shipping would be at the most around $9 (flat rate priority mail), but might be cheaper for you since you are nearby. If you get a relay I'm happy to meet up with you and save the shipping cost. I'm in Richmond, just off Hwy 80, and I work in Berkeley across the street from Alta Bate Hospital. Either place would be fine. Always happy to meet a fellow 914'er.

Original 0332514102 metal box relay side by side with the Bosch 0332514120. Pay no attention to the poor trim job on this dead relay that I found in a friends VW.
