How much do you hack off the console, is there a pattern/instructions that is provided?

I have a spare that I can cut off to minimize down time and swap it in.

I am using the Weltmiester short shift kit up at the shifter Coming out of the 1 - 2 detent is still notchy but once into the H the shifting is actually precise!

Why do you think that is? the Trans condition, the Welt SS, the kit or the combo?

I'm glad I did the home brew version. It was fun. But I spent 300.00 to do it myself, and countless hours making parts and making sure everything lined up right. The Tangerine kit comes with everything, ready to go, and everything will line up for a few hundred more. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/blink.gif) But if you find stuff like this fun, you'll love the challenge.

Rich Do you mean the "notchy" thing?? Maybe a better word is "tricky" or "finicky" Just inherent I think of getting out of the dogleg spring detent 1st/reverse plane. Nothing really to do with the setup or condition. I just take it slow and a bit careful.

Once in the H it is smooth and precise.

What is that procedure?
And do you have to drain the trans fluid to install this part?

You do not.
There is no need to remove the console from the transmission. The modifications are very simple, and there is a to-scale template included where you need to cut and drill.

What if you want to remove it to take to to a lathe? Will the fluid leak or is the console high enough in the trans?

I am not ready yet to swap the shift console.

But is there a position/gear to place the trans in, I assume shift to neutral before pulling the console out?

1) Yes, pull it out and you are going to have a stinky puddle.

2) A lathe? That is complete overkill for this application. A small amount of care with a hacksaw is all that needed, and dress it with a file.

All you are doing is clearanceing. Chris has done the precision part for you, which you bolt on to the console using the included template.

Really, its challenging to mess this up.

Even though there seems to be a bit of chatter whether or not to remove the console, I would recommend it.
If for no other reason than to provide an excuse to CHANGE YOUR OIL.
It seems too many owners ignore their trans until they have noise or problems.
I dont know how many gear boxes Ive serviced that may have NEVER had their oil changed or were running very low levels for a long time.

Remove the console so you don't end up with a butcher job like in the video!

the required work takes about the same amount of time as it does to remove and re-install the console.
