Howmuch does a Mahel 4 bolt wheel weigh, apparently the Fuchs 2.0 liter is about 11 pounds, which is pretty darn light. Just curious, low unsprung weight is always a good thing

Zackly 1 pound more than a Fuch. however your Fuch wieght is off. But I an't going there again.
Pedrini's wiegh nearly zackly 1 more pound than Mahle. So there is the pecking order. |

so lets talk rotating mass... i have been thinking about this. Doesn't a 5 lug conversion with vented rotors and big calipers weigh more than stock set-up?
Seams to me that all that stuff is a waste of money till you exaust the stock systems ability to stop the car. Make sure your stock is working right, spend the money where it helps most, shocks, bushings, bars, tires, handling. then cut weight, then add motor till you need more brakes. I bet slotted rotor with aggressive pads and BMW calipers would stop a ton of motor. just my 2 cents. |

they will, but they won't do it very many times before they boil the fluid -- they cover a lot of the disk that was used to radiate heat before you mounted big calipers... fundamentally you're right. but you need to evaluate the intended use. if you take the "low unsprung weight" setup to the hot lap day on the big track you'll overheat the brakes. if you take the "endurance-racing short track" setup to an AX, you'll be giving away pounds of unsprung weight to the dedicated AX cars (which is why it's hard enough to have a dual-purpose -- AX/street or street/DE car, and trying to do them all with the same setup leads to many unpleasant compromises). compare a NASCAR short-track brake setup to their Talladega setup -- or an Indy car's street-course setup to their Indy 500 setup. for the ovals they use brakes that look puny on motorcycles. for short tracks they're fricken' enormous. |

lets talk facts (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/smile.gif) or close enough..... stock /4 solid rotor* (no lug bolts) weighs 17 pounds stock brand new 911 vented rotor with 911 hub AND studs weighs 15 pounds.....since the nuts are aluminum, this setup will still be easily lighter than the 914 solid rotor *worn so a new one would weigh more |

Ok
So how much do 5 lug fuchs weigh? PS I may auto X no racing (yet) Seams like a duct with cool air would help too, unless you are really banging the brakes, I would rather spend the $ other places like heads from Len or engine by Jake (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/wub.gif) |
