Ugh! Good news, bad news...

Good news part is I had an outpatient procedure done on my lumbar spine Friday that seems to be reducing pain a ton.

Bad news part is I took the 914 out yesterday for a brief shakedown/heatcycle loop, and seems the throttle cable is failing. Made it home Ok but with nowhere near WOT and noticeably limited pedal travel. Cable is very loose at the linkage connection but doesn't seem to have completely broken so it's either shredding apart or something else is wacked with the linkage.

Car was way too hot to mess with last night (burned my arm trying) but most likely I'll have to try to tackle a cable change Thurs-Fri or else worst case bring a tail dragger. Pretty certain I have a spare cable here.

Looking forward to this as it will be my first 914 group drive. Been an owner for over a year now but have been working on getting the car functional/reliable enough to drive more than 5 miles.

I looked at it a bit this AM before work and am confident the 'hard' linkage up to the carbs is totally fine but I don't see what could've suddenly added like an inch of slack to the cable, unless something failed/bent up front at the pedal cluster end. BTDT, at the track no less, probably in this same car. Now it's boxed in the garage and I can't get back to it till Thurs.

Weather is still looking good for our drive, however @robarabian has made us aware that the rear parking lot at Vintage Grocers is blocked off. We will pivot and head back to Malibu Colony Plaza and make a reservation for lunch at Ollo before heading back!

Route Map and location on Post #1 of the the thread will be updated shortly.

Happy Thanksgiving and see you on Saturday!

I am ready, added a qt of oil and made sure the tires where at the right level.
Leaving from my house, Mark with his blue Raby 2270, Tuggy with his gray Boxster, Marks Red 911 Targa driven by his bud that took the pictures last year, and my now son in law Raymond riding with me.

Best Bob B
