Are you interested in the car? There are several members in that area that could check it out. Not a lot of useful information listed.

had a good look over those photos for data - L jet research.

i can tell its an EC-A engine. california emissions.
also there is a very old porsche service sticker and odo replacement sticker on drivers door which have californian addresses/authorities.
i'd say its been a southern calif car its entire life.

the L jet components are all intact and original.
has the original AFM. not a rebuild.
i did notice the intake boot is cracked. wont help it run. would need a new 914rubber boot. but it is all there engine wise and likely original engine (perhaps not even rebuilt).

car looks sunbaked in the rubbers, seals, dashboard bits. but thats sunny california.

nice color.

its a very late 1.8 right near the end of the 74 production run.
and overall pretty intact, if a bit worn.
would have had star steelies - see spare. looks like repro fuchs on it now.

I live in Mission Viejo and never see this car on the road. I have talked to two guys when driving my car who tell me they own a 914 but don’t show up to events when I tell them what’s happening next week.

That's what I was going to ask! The center caps look like American Racing center caps. I have never seen a 14" 4 lug wheel.

Bummer about the front corner.

That seems like a nice, solid car. I do not see how anyone wanting to get into a 914 could go wrong here. I still think seeing the car in person is well worth the time. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/beerchug.gif)

It probably has been, but I wouldn't count on it. There's lots of reasons this could have happened, but the white California plates on the car (starting with "5") were issued in the early 2000's. The original plates would have been blue/gold if it had been registered new in California in 1974. The changed license plates are consistent with the claim that the previous owner acquired it in 2006. For some reason it had to have new California plates issued. Could have been brought in from out of state, been off the road so long it dropped out of the DMV system, or the plates could have been lost or stolen. Provenance aside, it looks like a nice car. Somebody likely will be very happy.

i've taken a close look at the photos on the ad.
its got a sigla windsreen. you can just make out the stencil.
thats original. production line fitment. there were batches of 74s with sigla and there was a batch right at the end of production. so that checks out.
and next to the sigla screen stencil is the faded sun wasted remains of a california emissions standard sticker. only cal cars got that sticker.

i would be willing to bet its never left cal, or even so cal.
sure the rear trunk was rusted. but thats a standard rear trunk leak for any 914.
and the hell hole could be gone to hell. thats battery acid and rare cali rain and can happen even there. but id bet its never left cal. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/beerchug.gif)

i agree, it could be a good candidate. given the trunk rust i would want to get an eyeball on the hell hole because the battery tray looks like it got wasted at some point. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

but if that checks out you could build that back into a nice car.
definitely that entire engine bay is rock solid origy diggy L jet. never messed with.

Could someone please update the VIN database to include this one?
Also, was Marathon Blue a 74 color? I thought it was only for 75 and/or 76.
Love that color but didn’t see anything in the description about being repainted.

Yes, Marathon Blue Metallic with paint code L96M was an original color for the 914 in 1974.

i've got all the details for 1.8 research data base - can update vin register with it.

as 914four says, marathon blue a 73/74 color at min. this one has had a repaint (see the fresh air grill in front cowl) but i think it was a long time back. chrome got blacked out as well, probably at that time.

I didn't spot the Bosch dual relay, perhaps in a different location on a CA car.
