Wow. Rt 66 is only a few miles away from where I live. But the Rt 66 of the teener world takes me more than a thousand miles one way. Would really love to see the folks however east they might travel. Always wanted to see Oklahoma. Most of what I know about that region is based on popular songs.

I would suggest to avoid Oklahoma in the summer on a car with no ac. Fall is the best time here. Summers can be brutal here. 110⁰ with 90% humidity is not unusual here. Come in the spring if you don't mind severe storms and tornados. The music scene in Tulsa rivals that of Austin and Nashville. Leon Russell's Church studio, Woody Guthrie center, Bob Dylan archives, the Cains ballroom, etc.

I can see taking it from Santa Monica pier to Rancho Cucamonga and having lunch out there! Do some bench racing and head home from there!

Thanks John

I like this route for me, count me in Paul, plus I'm waiting to see who's willing to head up WCR 2026.
Any takers?...annual WCR's are always a highlight of the year.

Oh come on now. Just a little heat. Top on to avoid being cooked, windows down and go! We rolled through 66 at over 100 degrees. We stopped at Roy's in Amboy for water. The store owner was sitting counting his money and made us wait in the heat for like 15 minutes before he would open up so we could buy some water. He wouldn't make change either. Plan ahead for heat stroke. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/blink.gif)

Living on Tulsa time so to speak. Which I already do up north here.

Me too. Sometimes I can’t make it more than a thousand miles south of the Seattle area where I am now keeping the 3.2.

Hey guys, for those who want to come to Albuquerque or New Mexico in general, I live 20 minutes outside of Albuquerque and Rt. 66 runs through my town of Edgewood. I know Albuquerque is planning all kinds of centennial events, so if you'd like me to coordinate something or at least present a bunch of options, let me know.
I know with the car culture here, the celebrations are going to be pretty special.

There is an update on the Route 66 Centennial Caravan website.
No new details, but there is a link to a page to give them some basic info if you are planning to join the event. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/type.gif)

My 914 has been out of commision for the last couple of years so hoping to get back to travelling. I signed up to join this in Rolla, MO and going to Springfield, IL. Hoping to drive the 914 but may end up in the Cayman because of June heat. Hoping to attend Red Rock this year if all goes well.

For those who wanted to go to Albuquerque, we can stay overnight at the -

Best Western Motel and Suites
2400 Yale Boulevard SE, Albuquerque, New Mexico 87106

The date would be Friday, the 12th of June and departing the next morning.

The drive on the next day, Saturday, will be a caravan up to Santa Fe where you can again stay at the Best Western Inn Plus at 3650 Cerrillos Road, Santa Fe, New Mexico 87507

I would want to stay in Albuquerque and drive up to Santa Fe, BUT it depends which way they go which hasn't been mentioned yet. The most direct route is taking I-25 North to Santa Fe, but that way sucks. I know a much better way through Route 14 through Madrid. The road is scenically excellent.
Please let mne know if you're interested.
