Just like the title says asks, looking for your input and coaching on fueling options for a 2.3L long block being built. Would love an EFI kit but doubt my ability to assembly a DIY and the kits seem rather dearly priced. Have heard talk about using Holley Sniper set-ups.

Track down a set of Webers or go with EMPI?

Sizing for livability rather than ultimate performance?

Thanks!

I would go with modern FI. PMB sells these and a few of our members have it on their cars. My bud Mark Sonner’s is putting this on his 2270 as we speak. It will always be in tune and will make like much easer for you. Mark was always dicking with his carb set up. This as we say is More Better

PMB used to use the Holly Universal X EFI, but I believe they now use components from The Dub Shop.

A friend of mine will soon be installing Haltech EFI on his fresh 2.3 build.

I have had Weber IDF40s on my 2.3 and "it's always something" with the carbs.

So does PMB sell a complete kit or parts that someone experienced with EFI installs needs to then turn into a complete package and install?

Anyone in greater SoCal an "expert" on these installs?

Thanks for the reply and discussion.

PMB has a section of their website devoted to EFI solutions / kits. I have not looked recently but as of a year or so they had TIV EFI kits available.

I'm running the PMB EFI derived from the Terminator X and I really like it. But I also just can't stand carbs.

I'm really fighting the urge to put the same EFI kit on the TIV in my bay window bus.

I'm in the process of finishing installing the PMB fuel injection system on my 914 (a 2.0 with an aggressive carb cam). You can read about it here: http://www.914world.com/bbs2/index.php?showtopic=346771 The install is on the last two pages of the thread. The hardware is completely installed, now I'm just working on tuning the engine -- it still has a way to go, but it's already driving better than the D-Jet did.

For the most part, this has been a relatively-simple install, and it can be done with the engine in the car (but would be much easier out of the car). It came with all parts needed to just bolt in, except for two minor modifications -- the fuel pressure regulator post needs the hole opened a bit to fit the new FPR, and a bung needs to be welded onto the muffler for the O2 sensor. I made a few minor changes to the kit, primarily putting bent hoses on the injectors and adding plugs as needed to the no-longer-used vacuum ports (stock D-Jet has more ports than needed on the modern system).

The ECU is a MS3Pro Mini and cam/crank timing signal comes from the included custom distributor. Tuning is done via TunerStudio, and a license for the software comes with the kit. Price for the kit is around $3K, but don't quote me on that.
