I have this motor, it does not spin over by hand. I have no history on it. I would like to solicit opinion on value so I can list for sale. Any advice would be helpful, thank you.Attached Image

Is there a way to match the engine # on a six to the actual VIN? I guess what I'm asking is this information on the Kardex and can you do a reverse lookup? It would be cool to reunite it with the original vehicle...assuming you don't already own it.

Get hold of Dave Pateman. He does this kind of thing all the time.

Wow not often you see a complete longblock ,most have been "picked" to shortblocks for fan housing/altenator ,carbs etc ,has it still got flywheel/clutch ,aircleaner and carb bases ,and exhaust ? ,IMO this helps for future sale .
Think it would be cool if someone could match to their car ,lets see ??.

That was my post trying to figure out what the motor was when I originally obtained it. I want to move it along now and try to get reasonable $ for it. I also have a 1974 914 2.0 that I got running that I need to price and sell
As well. Going to focus on my Datsun 260z and Toyota fj60 projects. Thanks for the advice/comments.

I would like to point something out to you; I paid $3000 for the correct SN engine case clean and ready to go to my 6. is only worth that kind of money if it matches the car it came down the line with, but there are all the Accessories on the Eng. Carbs, and the rest. I don't know what to say but I think that mark @ mepsteinis going to come up with the best possible value at this time because he knows engines as he is a pro.

Good hunting,
Best Bob B

Pro is an exaggeration but I’ve sold a bunch of them. It’s just a 911T engine but brings a bit of a premium to 914-6 owners looking to make their car more “correct”. I would rather spend the money on any good running six engine over a core. Look at rebuild costs and you will see why.
I have seen two 914-6 owners reunite their engines and chassis but I personally don’t care about numbers matching unless it brings a higher sale price.

It's greatest value is to the owner of the car it came from.
If that car still exists. If the owner cares.
I have an empty block and know the car it was delivered in.
The car is heavily modified and the owner doesn't see any reason to spend
anything for the engine. Oh well.
Your engine has some very specific 914 6 parts that have value on their own.
The block itself is not a great choice to build a performance engine so it's value
is low compared to later improved blocks.
914 6 specific parts I see are.
front engine mount
fuel delivery tube
Carbs have their own 914 6 type #
Oil plumbing
Oil cooler
Marelli distributor
If it was bought fairly a long time ago you should do OK
914 6s will never have the parts 'audience' that 911s enjoy.

I had two 914/6 engines a few years ago, they are slow movers. Anyone doing a six conversion isn't concerned with originality so why use the slowest 911 engine made. Same with anyone who has a real six, it's also not the ideal engine, unless you're going real hard to make it look original, but most don't care.
A realistic price is $2500-4000 if you want to actually move it.
When selling parts there is the world of "it should be worth" and the world of "what it's actually worth". One of the strongest and hardest to swallow drinks to drink is a tea, it's called Rea-al-a-tea.

I'll give a good example. I had a running 930 engine a few years ago, it was still in a car so I had a video of it running and driving. I don't normally do 930's so I asked around what it was worth. The overwhelming number range was $25,000-30,000. I took me a year to sell it and it sold for $14,000. I guess I could have held onto to it for another few years hoping to find "that guy". But I took the $14,000 and moved onto the next deal. All the experts said I undersold it, I pointed out that I actually sold it.

The engine on my March '70 is 6404513 so just about 300 later. Guessing this is a January/early February '70 chassis, maybe in the 430500 range?
