Going through my parts pile, I've found what I think are complete (but only partly assembled) carb setups for both Dual Webbers (40 IDF) and a single Holley (don't know what model...how do I tell? There's a "D-3" on the side).

Purchased the parts with a non-running '73 a few months ago along with both trunks full of extra bits and parts.

Which would you suggest I use?
Which is more reliable?
What is the Holley better at?
What are the Webbers better at?

It'll be going on a 1.7 and I'm not going to be racing it or anything, so an extra coupla HP is less important to me than reliability and availability of replacement parts. But a few extra horsepower are always welcome!

The way they look, I'll need to get a kit to rebuild either setup, so I need to know which one to go for before I buy the kit.

What do you think?

The single Pinto/Weber carb is a good door stop.

The long steel runners on the single carb make for poor atomization of the fuel. Results in very poor preformance, with holes and stutters. As Mikey says"Use it as a door stop:.


Duals all the way or Fuel injection!

I'll follow your advice. If I had the parts, I'd go FI, but like the Scarecrow in Oz, I don't have a brain. What do you think it would run me to get one?

I have a 73 1.7/2.0 ECU sitting on the shelf-$75. Its been tested and is a good unit

My 72 1.7 had a single Weber on it when I bought it. Sluggish and didn't bring much thrill. Took it off and installed dual Dellorto 40s along with a Pertronix ignitor set up and (IMG:style_emoticons/default/clap56.gif) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/clap56.gif) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/clap56.gif) . Brought much more enjoyment to the 914 experience. Got a good performance kick and the sound of the duals sucking in air is awesome.

I've got a 72 parts car that still has the FI intact except for the fuel pump. If you decide to go FI and need parts I may have what you need. Low$ and close.

Without checking my book, I think the HolleyD3 is a 34 Idf made under license. Not much in the performance department, but will reach 35 mpg. The Dual 40's would be a better choice.

I had one of those Holley/Webers and found out that they don't float at all. They sink right to the bottom when you throw them in a canel behind your house. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wink.gif)
