Drag him out to an autocross. Show him what a 914 is really good at. If you want straight line speed, buy a mustang and blow the doors off of him. I could be wrong, but I highly doubt that you are building your 914 to be a drag car.

Or blow his doors off by installing a healthy SBC V8 350cid.

2400lbs / 325HP = 7.38lbs per HP.
compared to his 11lbs per HP.

You'd blow him away.

Had one of these Zs over a couple weeks ago for repaint (it had been keyed). Nice car but to me it seemed more cramped inside than the 914. Sneaking it out for a test drive, I'm sure my yellow car could whoop it. Well, up to 90 mph or so anyway.

Power to weight, yes.... But also performance to dollar.

You mentioned 4 banger. If you don't want to do a v8 conversion, take the amount of money he spent on the Z (minus what you paid for the 914) and send it to Jake. Tell him you want a 914-4 that will blow away the Z.

Done deal. And pocket the difference.

Eric,

Ask him to visit California in his Z if he wants a straight line ass- whipping by a 914-6. I am more than happy to watch him through my rear view mirror. If he wants a even bigger visit to the woodshed we can do a 0-100-0 or a 0-150-0. That would be even more humbling! And if he wants to get the ass-whipping from another vehicle of his cars country of origin, I can use my WRX STI and save the Teener for its own kind.

Ain't it kinda hard to get your lips wrapped around the door of one of them Z cars?

I routinely whip the living shit out of a 350 Z with track package at the local SCCA Autocross.

So are you saying I need 262 hp with a 2892lb car. That's undoable.

What 914 weighs 2892lb?!
But like others are saying who cares about a boring 350Z, enjoy your 914 however you like it, be it a 3.6l car like the 914RS or a stock 1.7, it's all fun.

I agree with the others, anyone can drive in a straight line, well except my neighbors wife but that is a different story.

Will (qa1142) & I were at my SCCA regions AX this past Sunday. His 74 1.8L & my 70 with a 73 2.0L both had raw times faster (53.294 & 53.270) than the 03 Dodge Viper(54.669), 04 WRX (53.329), 04 SRT Neon (54.825), 04WRX STI (53.374) and....... my point is all these cars will kick our (stock) ass in a straight line. Just because you have mega HP doesn't mean you know how to use it.

1st how fast are you trying to race the 350z to.
60mph, 100mph or the 1/4mile? A good prepped 2li 914 will do well to about 40-70mph after that you can say bye bye.
I must agree with Muller, a good 4cyl 2Li built right will do the job as long as the tranny does not give up.

I had a silver 2 or 2.2liter 4cyl carb with A/C 914 that was very fast, I could take on 5.0 Mustangs thru the first three gears then I would most likely get stuck in 3rd and needed to use both hands to get it out of third gear.

Now I have a 914-6 3.5 twin plug and beat Z06, Vipers, 360. It does 11.6 at the 1/4m. but I need to grow out of street racing were one mistake can kill an innocent person.
That’s why I race on a track and really enjoy it. SCCA HSR NASA

But I must admit I really like the look and sound of the 350z, when that car came out it was accepted be car enthusiast all over. I think that it will be around just like the 240/260 and 280z.
Then again that my opinion from a guy who like Z cars, and 510’s BMW 2002, 3.0 CSL bat wing, MB 190 2.5EVO, Ford Escort Rally cars, 911 73 RSR, Renault Alpine A110 and R5 Turbo 2( which I drove as a rally car), Lancia Stratos and 033. I can go on but let me stop before someone from the 914 club shoots me down

914’s are in a world of there own. You can leave them stock or modify them with twin turbo V-8’s. and that’s what really neat about our cars.

I always think of those old Lotus Esprit Turbo's. Quick as heck. Real light and a 4 banger.

Alot of the guys I work with have vipers (some of them are modified) and I have no problem spanking them. I do have an 8 though. I do love my $8000 car running with $40,000+ cars!

Why don't you just build the motor for you and your car. Stop worrying about some assjack at your work. Ask him how many 350z's he sees a day. I have 4 in my works parking lot alone. I don't think we have 4 of any other car in the lot. Then ask him if he is a sheep or a shepherd?

good point and good comeback!

Yeah!

And THEN tell him what happens to sheep around here.

And THEN take him for a ride on a twisty road.

... and then ask him if his Z is paid for.
