Saw the thread about the PP 911 board's anual DIY awards, and though, why don't we have our own? How about if the moderators decide on some categories, and then we can nominate people/projects and vote on them each year. Winner of each category could have a thread created featuring their project. These special project threads could all be placed in a special bbs category for award winners (similar to the "classic thread" category). What does the management think?

being a 'teener owner requires a 'diy' attitude. a 911 does not. most pay others for their repairs.

tim ( iteek ) did raise a rodent infested 911 from the dead with help from fellow pelicanites. a total novice, but i think a busted piston oil ring killed his monumental progress.

i would still vote for mikey. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smilie_pokal.gif)

Good greif, I'm not talking about voting on the 911 projects! I'm talking about awards of our own - 914 DIY awards. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/rolleyes.gif)

Off the top of my head, I'd nominate for the last year of work done:

JP (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smash.gif)
Paul (URY914)
Paul Smrz (sp?)...kid with V8 conversion, did it himself
???? the kid that did the Subaru conversion (1st a /4 and now a /6 Subaru)
and ??

I know there are plenty of others, my brain is not working too well right now (only on 3rd cup of coffee (IMG:style_emoticons/default/beer3.gif) )

Ok, for categories how'bout stuff like:

most inovative new product/process/design (rennshift/muellerbearings/shrinkingdisk/etc.)
coolest project completed for under $1,000 (not car - just specific project)
best cosmetic mod
best performance mod
biggest before-after change (limited to the competition year)
best "return to original" (before-after)

other ideas?

I like the categories.....

just so you know...the bearings are not my original design, I've just changed a few things and reduced the cost....any idiot can do that (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

another category:

most monumental task (such as replacing suspension console) or doing repair work when the car should have clearly been scrapped (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smash.gif)

most miles put on the car without owner having to repair/tweak car (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

ok Im going to take exception for 911 guys paying others to do there work.....

I turn wrenches on all my vehicles.....

look here this project will be a 1800 lb 911 when comlete, with a 200hp, 7800rpm engine, with a short geared tranny. When this car is complete the 914 goes under the knife.. I want the 914 to be less than 1600lbs and 300 hp...or more
