OK, this is the sensor underneath the distributor... there is a green/red wire in the aea that is looking for a connection, and also a white wire. (I noticed today that there is a yellow wire that has one of those plastic block type connectors, which indicates to me that it should connect to another wire rather than a terminal.)

1st one is the oil pressure sensor.
Second one is air temp sensor.

Get a wiring diagram...or haynes manual and make sure all the correct color wires are connected to the correct parts of the Fuel Injection harness.

Thaks, Rich. I'll check it out. I'm feeling a bit under the weather right now, but I should be back in the garage tomorrow night.

Hang in there... most of have done this dance before. It's frustrating, especially if you're unfamiliar with what right *should* look like.

You'll get there! (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/smile.gif)

What is the sensor in the second picture? I found that the green/red wire goes to the sensor under the distributor (oil pressure sensor), but I'm not sure what that other sensor is.

OK, after doing some electrical troubleshooting, I FINALLY found that 3 out of the 4 injectors weren't firing. (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/mad.gif) Definitely an injector problem and not a wiring problem, since I was able to hook all 4 power connectors to the good injector and get it to buzz when I worked the throttle. (While kicking the engine halfway over to get alternate pairs of injector wires to come alive.)

So I ordered 3 injectors and installed them. Now I can get all 4 injectors to buzz when I work the throttle (again, kicking the engine over to exercise alternate pairs of injectors), but the engine still won't start. Only 2 cylinders are firing. I don't think it's a spark problem because I checked all 4 wires before, and also the engine roars to life with starting fluid.

Any suggestions as to what to do next?

She did buy one new injector some time ago. I had a gargae test the injectors this summer while the engine was out... I believe (but I can't prove this) that the garage that tested the injectors screwed them up somehow. I can't explain any other reason why 3 out of 4 injectors should be bad, considering that the car ran fine when it arrived in my driveway.

Pardon my ignorance, but if a set of trigger points is bad, wouldn't that cause the injectors controlled by those points not to buzz at all?

Trigger points check out OK.

Only cylinders #1 and #3 are firing. I'll try to verify the spark on the bad cylinders, but it's pretty cold here and I can only work on the car for a few minutes at a time.

take the trigger point plug and turn it over. See if you get cyl 2 & 4 to fire instead.

It sounds like you may be making some slow progress. Earlier today I thought I read that you only had #1 firing.

My guess is trigger points. (The trigger points fire the injectors in 2 groups, 1&3 and 2&4)

Good luck.

I'm going to have to rig something up to flip the plug... it only goes in one way.

The thing is, I checked the trigger points with a meter... both points are closing alternately as the engine rotates. That's why I don't think it's the trigger points.

hmm, sounds like there's no fuel going to the injectors if the trigger points are working and the injectors are buzzing.

you could take the injectors out to see if fuel is coming out of them, just place it in a jar of some sort.

If there's no fuel coming out of them I would check the fuel pressure regulator, it will only let fuel pass in one direction, if its hooked up wrong there's no fuel coming to your injectors.
And double check the fuel line connections on the pump
