Allright, here's my deal. If you send me a money order for 50 dollars, I'll take your luggage rack.

I have one for my black car (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif)

Oh yes, it is on the second trunk. If we are traveling and I need a little extra carry space, just pop off the basic trunk lid and put on the one with the rack.

As to value. Bright shiny new condition: $75 otherwise $50

Just as some people like Chevy engines in their teeners, some like trunk racks. Hell, I have even heard of people replacing the factory fuel injection with carburators. Imagine that.

I guess there is room for all of us on this board

How about using it as a roof rack? They're always found on the other VW's.

My car unfortunately came with one. If I ever paint it, I'll remove it then. I must say though it does come in handy sometimes and it has grown on me a little. Ultimately, I still think it ruins the lines of the car.

Why all the hate? I think the thing looks pretty nifty!  Very " 70's". I also LOVE the look of the  hubcap wheels.

Did I just set myself up in front of the fireing sqaud?

With the nerf bars, very cool look...... (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/smilie_pokal.gif)

Luggage rack for the front hood too? (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/wacko.gif)

John

you're kidding, right? (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/wacko.gif) (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/av-943.gif)

No, I think one would also have to have chrome steelies with the LARGE hubcaps AND an 8-track player...

John (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/bootyshake.gif)

P.S. And curb feelers (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/wink.gif)

Ya fogot the wooden dash ya AZ dimwit!

That is MISTER Dimwit to you, Ron

P.S. Our '72 car has the wood dash option, (oak, Baby!).

And yes a teener with all the bolt-ons would be cool.... (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/cool_shades.gif)

Back in the day, as in college days in the early 60's, I had an aluminum trunk rack that was often used on my bugeye Sprite. I believe I bought it out of the JC Whitney catalog. Of course the Sprite had very limited interior space under the rear deck, and that space was most often dedicated to my guitar! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/shades.gif) Having all the interior space of fronk and trunk on my 914 would have been "most excellent!"

yes - period correct - a true collectible and a crowd-pleaser at local cruise-ins

in a way - this thread is reminiscent of the love/hate threads on the rear reflector add-on

I wouldn't mind a 914 with all the AMCO aftermarket stuff just to have one. Not that I like that look but it would be different.

I would never mess up a good trunk lid by cutting holes in it for a luggage rack..

That being said.. My car did have the Amco Crash Bars and the Wooden Dash
installed by the Dealer when the car was sold new.
The dash will be on the car forever... And even though I have a NOS set of the crash bars.. I can't see drilling holes in my new Stainless Bumpers to mount them...
Otherwise, they would be on the car also
