I have an original luggage rack in great shape, does any one know what this is worth? I couldn't get a pic, but it is the chrome four bar rack that ruins your deck lid. any info would be great, thanks!

Wasn't Aaron looking for one these? biggrin.gif
Mueller
I'd pay you .50 cents to destroy it so that it never gets mounted again on a 914 smile.gif

Haha, those and the Nerf overrider bars! biggrin.gif

Why all the hate? I think the thing looks pretty nifty! Very " 70's". I also LOVE the look of the hubcap wheels.

Did I just set myself up in front of the fireing sqaud?

There is someone out there who wants one. There always is. laugh.gif

I know a guy who restored a Triumph Spitfire. Body work, new paint, interior, top, etc. Plus, a nice crome luggage rack on the rear trunk lid! screwy.gif

Many, many years ago when I had a 61 Sunbeam Alpine, I used to look at my import parts catalogs and consider buying all kinds of goofy stuff. rolleyes.gif In fact, I still do. Just different kinds of stuff. laugh.gif

To each his own. laugh.gif

No, I think one would also have to have chrome steelies with the LARGE hubcaps AND an 8-track player...

I put mine on to antagonize everyone.

Really, it was put on by the Porsche dealer when purchased. It had (20) holes to mount & fill so I left it on. It grows on you (me).

What's it worth??? Depending on condition max of $50 bucks for the right person

I've never seen a lugage rack like that, at least I don't think I have huh.gif

Is there another kind?
GaroldShaffer
I wouldn't mind a 914 with all the AMCO aftermarket stuff just to have one. Not that I like that look but it would be different. smile.gif
Katmanken
Had one and it is definately different from Tom's

Mine had 4 attachment points on the trunk and a set of elevated bars that went side to side....

Trunk lid was toast as it won't support much over the weight of the luggage rack....

Trunk lid might support an empty styrofoam cooler on a luggage rack IMO.... icon8.gif

Course you always could use the rack to mount a nice big wing....

Back in the 70`s with my first 914 ..it had a luggage rack. We drove to Denver and brought back 12 cases of Coors, four tied to the rack. beerchug.gif

2 types of luggage racks... The one pictured above, and

I think I sold mine for 50.

That took a long long time to sell.

Sell it on ebay, if you dont get any bidders, put up a classifieds add, and bump it every month.
Jeffs9146
Sold, who wants it for $50.00??

jd74914
Now those are the kind i was thinking of.

I'll give you $5 and pay for shipping. biggrin.gif

Allright, here's my deal. If you send me a money order for 50 dollars, I'll take your luggage rack.

gregrobbins
I have one for my black car biggrin.gif

Oh yes, it is on the second trunk. If we are traveling and I need a little extra carry space, just pop off the basic trunk lid and put on the one with the rack.

As to value. Bright shiny new condition: $75 otherwise $50

Just as some people like Chevy engines in their teeners, some like trunk racks. Hell, I have even heard of people replacing the factory fuel injection with carburators. Imagine that.

I guess there is room for all of us on this board
TC/914
How about using it as a roof rack? They're always found on the other VW's.
anthony
My car unfortunately came with one. If I ever paint it, I'll remove it then. I must say though it does come in handy sometimes and it has grown on me a little. Ultimately, I still think it ruins the lines of the car.

Back in the day, as in college days in the early 60's, I had an aluminum trunk rack that was often used on my bugeye Sprite. I believe I bought it out of the JC Whitney catalog. Of course the Sprite had very limited interior space under the rear deck, and that space was most often dedicated to my guitar! shades.gif Having all the interior space of fronk and trunk on my 914 would have been "most excellent!"

I would never mess up a good trunk lid by cutting holes in it for a luggage rack..

That being said.. My car did have the Amco Crash Bars and the Wooden Dash
installed by the Dealer when the car was sold new.
The dash will be on the car forever... And even though I have a NOS set of the crash bars.. I can't see drilling holes in my new Stainless Bumpers to mount them...
Otherwise, they would be on the car also
