Looking over the pictures of the Dunkel event, I notice that there are pretty much 2 ways that folks seem to go with mirrors. They either stay stock or go with something that looks like the cheap Italian mirrors that you can get at any FLAP. In my opinion the later make a really fine car look really bad.
On my car I tried putting 911 mirrors on (the rectangular ones). These met my goals of a larger mirror surface and a mirror with "break away" functionality so that I wouldn't have to readjust them every time someone bumped them. The problem with these is the holes that you have to cut into the doors and the difficulty of getting this right. Fortunately, I was working with old doors that I planned to replace 'cuz I didn't get it right. So does anyone know of an aftermarket mirror that meets these goals and is easy to mount? How about a foolproof way to mount either the rectangular or oval style mirrors from the 911 or newer Porsches? There is one that I saw in the Dunkel pictures that looks like it could fit the bill, but I don't know what it is. Anybody know? http://www.pelicanparts.com/swapmeet_pics/...ML/Page-691.htm |

Jeroen,
Can I ask you where and for how much you managed to get fiberglass GT flares imported from the US. Do Mittelmotor not do these? Just toying between fg GT flares and the rabbit flare options. Crawf |

I'm not talking just the flares, but complete fenders (bumper to door) with flares
(nobody has those in europe) If you only need the flares, Mittelmotor should have them Then again... I might be tempted to sell the steel gt-flares that are on my car now (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) cheers, Jeroen |

Timo,
Can you see out of those? They look like they may be a little far back. My 356 had one of those on it, they are nice, but not my choice on a teener. |

Yes, I can see "something".... (IMG:style_emoticons/default/tongue.gif)
They are nice mirrors, but I can use it only in the drivers side. There is no hope to mount it to the passanger side. I bought two mirrors, test fitted them and had to give up the idea having two mirrors. My mirror is with convex glass. It helps a little. I also had to mount it so, that it is not exactly in line with the center of car. It is a little inclined. It is hard to see from the picture and even harder to explain. Hope you understand. If I had moved it more back, I should have mount it more inclined. It is in quite a good place now although it is a compromise. I spend a lot of time finding the "right" place.... Timo,
I'll have to check on mine as I also have talbot mirrors. They are installed on both sides too... Go figure! Some like them, some don't. here is the only shoot of the passengers side that I have: Marc-Andre |

sorry, I have taken so long to get back to you guys...
the mirrors I posted can be had any number of places...but the pic came from the listings at www.racerpartswholesale.com and as far as I know the carbon ones are really carbon...but they also have them in fiberglass and plastic for reduced prices... Brad, if these use reflective tape, how well do they work? Thanks, Tony |

Regarding 924 mirrors, the challenge is still how to get them right the first time. You don't want to go cutting holes in your door unless they are right. Another question is how well the base matches the curve of the 914 door. I've had the impression that the 911 mirrors fit the 914 door better, but I haven't had a chance to actually test this. Is there a write-up anywhere on mounting these mirrors on doors that were not originally designed for them?

My mechanic used a mirror from an old Ford Escort on a car he did about 10 or so years ago. It looks much like the Porsche Flag mirror and fit the contour very well.
Maybe I'll 'borrow' the photo next time I'm there. |

Look pretty good, huh?
I bet they're about 10 bucks each at a pick-a-part. |

I've got gutted steel doors on my race car. I mounted a pair of Vitaloni Sebring mirrors on the doors close to the windshield pillar. The mirrors are plastic so I tried to dish the bottom of the mount to fit the curvature of the door. The fit was barely OK and damn sure nothing special. Biggest problem was trying to mount passenger side so it looked decent. Then you couldn't adjust the mirror to see anything except a couple of feet to the side of the rear bumper and maybe 20 to the rear on that side. Have to keep a close eye of other cars with the wink mirror mounted inside. In short a piss poor solution. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/unsure.gif)

My car had the Vitaloni California mirrors (see Andy's post on the previous page) on it when I got it
They are only adjustable up and down over the mounting base, so you can't set 'em up on the teener decently I think they were the first part of the car that I threw in the trash Later I saw them in a catalog and noticed the price, aw god, did I just junk those (IMG:style_emoticons/default/unsure.gif) Well, I couldn't use em no the car anyway... cheers, Jeroen |
