And pull the plug on the '5th' injector to see if that helps. Mine went south when I first bought the car, stayed open and drowned everything.

here's what I would do:

take off the FI system, replace with Dellortos.

Enjoy the drive.

Although, I do agree it sounds like an electrical problem, ultimately. With those FI systems, it could be anything, and troubleshooting on the side of the road isn't often a viable option. At least with Carbs, you know where you stand..

Good luck - don't give up - it is frustrating for sure - but once it's sorted out.. woohoo.

not without changing that cam

a FI engine with carbs = not efficient at all.

It was only about 45 today with wind gusts up to 60 MPH. No garage space without moving a lot of junk (inlucing one 914/6 tub and two motors) out of the garage. Not much time either. Skeleton crew at work today.

I decided to skip it until Saturday.

Gint, sorry the car is not being your friend.

Sorry to hi-jack, I just can't let this slide.
This is not true. I've personally seen/ridden in a car with a stock 1.8 with Webers and it was amazing.
Beat near everyone at the a/x.

Most people say a carbed motor on the stock cam will not make *more* power than a well tune F.I. set-up.

I'm not even so sure about that.

Hi-jack over...Start a new thread if you want to go on this.

Sorry Mike... (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/hijacked.gif)

mike,
what time do you want me to come by and (re)move that tub and motor for you(permanently), so you have room to work on the budget car? (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/lol2.gif)

you're crazy t (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/wink.gif) . you're right britt., and 2 x 32/36DGAVs would be 2x inefficient. but you would have dual webers. (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/huh.gif)

actually, you would no longer have the problem with the long intake runners and the lack of heat. It would be intresting to see how well they worked. Granted this still wont work well for a 2000cc engine, but for a 1700...........

I had a pretty good idea that knew what it was. I had been telling Sharon just a few days before it quit that the car felt like it was having less and less power at low rpm. The dwell was a little high when I installed the points when doing th etune up a month or so ago. I suspected my timing had changed or something was wronng with the points and that the dwell might be changing on me.

The dizzy was locked down tight and not turning (changing the advance), nor had it risen up and subsequently become disengaged. For grins I checked the coil for spark and found none. I have a new Bosch blue coil that I hadn't installed yet, so I temp'd it in... no joy. A check of the points revealed that with them on a dizzy lobe, they were still shorted. I loosened the screw and tried to open the points but they were still shorted. At this point I noticed the rubbing block had seemingly disapeared. Took the points out and low and behold, the rubbing block is broken at the base.

I just happened to have a spare set of points on my desk. Stay tuned...

Bosch, Brazil And I just put the same thing back in it.

Damn that was fun. I just terrorized a 5 mile radius. Gotta replace that glass pack with the stock muffler I bought.

Does it have a bosch coil? I've seen FLAPS coils melt that block.
