So exactly what series of events has to take place for someone to decide... "Hmmm... I like 914 conversions... Lets put in a Maserati 2.5 Bi Turbo engine and see what that can do?"
Twin Turbo 914 Wild! I guess it's true. Most people have more money than they know what to do with. (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/blink.gif) |

I am conflicted about this. On the one hand, I think its cool - especially if it can be gotten to work.
On the other handputting a masarati in a 914 seems more wrong to me then a chevy or scoob plant. Zach |

Doesn't appear that there's too much interest in the German Italian matchup, though.... (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/sawzall-smiley.gif)

Don't the biturbos feed the pressurized air into a big chamber with a CARB in it? Seems like a terrible idea to me.

I think that is to have the same pressures inside and outside the carb body. That way the carb body doesn't have to be modified to contain boost pressure, without leaking boost and spewing out fuel. (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/laugh.gif) That was one of the ways manufacturers tried with early turbo setups. Lotus used a blow through arrangement when they first turboed the Elite. Four cylinders, dual Delhortos, turbo...lots of horsepower. They blew the snot out of it! Many of the Paxton Blown Studebakers also used boxes around their carbs. That way they didn't have to modify the carb to hold in the 4-6psi the blower added. Tended to blow fuel out of the accelerator pump linkage hole on those AFB's.

funny thing is im actually looking into this car- biturbos were rated from the initial 180 hp to the final 285 hp, will need a LOT of custom one-off parts tho to make it all work
but the addiction has struck full force and now i feel a need to have more than 1 that needs work BIG TIME!! sure its not porsche, not a GM and aint a hemi either, but that maserati on the valve covers looks pretty cool heheh |

i'd find how he adapted the motor to the transmission 1st, if custom one-off parts for the clutch or flywheel, that project car can get expensive in a hurry... by the way, the new "hemi's" are not "hemi's" at all....pure marketing BS which the general public has bought into (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/smile.gif) |
