That's the one! It uses 1/2" pins and has an adjustable spread on the bars. There are many other copies of this item on the market. I think that DrawTite just buys it and slaps a sticker on it. It is longer than the SB bar and has rectangular tubes. I believe it to be much stronger and more versitile. DLee

Much more usefull for other cars.

Somebody already posted a picture of my car hooked up but here is a pic of the actual bar. Looks about the same to me. 1/2" pins, etc. Haven't looked for a while but these things were all over eBay for ~$60 plus shipping. Flaps usually have them too.

Used 3" flat washers behind the bracket. Hopefully that's enough (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif)
I just remove the grilles to use the brackets. Nothing fancy.

All this bumping is hurtin' my head Dan.....

So, we now have a full 3/8" adapter unit for the SB bar that works wonderfully. I have the plates cut and am waiting on the proper bolts to arrive from our friends from Fastenal. The plan is that if you choose to purchase one of these units from me, you will have everything you need to install the unit (hardware is included).

You will need to purchase either a SuperBeetle tow bar or a Draw Tite style and then specify which bar you have so that I can send you the proper 914 adapter. I strongly recommend safety chains and will specify the proper installation of a web page when I open things up for orders.

I would also recommend buying a set of TowMaster lights from Harbor Fright. They are on sale this week for $19.95. What a deal for magnetic lights!

I will attach a few pics of the lifesized unit for your review. You will notice that the front bolt is loose and the spacer tube is 1/4" shy of the body. Production models will be sized properly, but those spacers were already cut from a previous model. I plan on leaving these loose as I have found that if I tack them in place they make it more difficult to fit as the cars vary somewhat from car to car.

Pricing....the magic question..... I am targeting the $100 price (delivered in the continental USA), but rescerve the right to adjust once I find out what a box is going to cost to pack this up.

Comments welcomed.....

I like it. Looking forward to it. Put me on the list of confirmed buyers. Hell, I'll send the money now.

David, Nice Work (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/smilie_pokal.gif)
Im down as well !!
What make everyone say that the SB bar is weak?
it looks like the weakest point is the tab welds at the mounting point to the tubes? (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/idea.gif)

Thanks guys. I will be taking orders and shipping next week. I am swamped with work and also waiting for the hardware to arrive. This weekend I will weld up about 10 or so to have a little stock. (Five of the two different styles) Early next week, I will put up a page with pics, instructions and safety tips.

Thanks for the interest.......I hope this is a solution for those that are going to the WCC and don't want to drive their car. (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/drunk.gif)

Thanks Rand......Hey, if my butt is on the line, I want there to be no question about strength. I tried to get 1/4" with double sheer past the engineer, but he said no go. This has to be stonger than the bar in my opinion. With a tow bar, there are no chances for error. DLee

Better safe than sorry for sure. Not like it's going to make a weight difference that matters anyway.
