And how many pins are actually REQUIRED? Just 4:
1 +12 in 2 +12 out to side, tail lights (1st position) 3 +12 out to main lights (really, hi/lo switch or relay) (2nd position) 4 +0-+12 out to dash lights (dimmer knob) The difference is what's split inside the switch v. what's split outside the switch. |

If you (Andy or anyone) can cope with doing some rewiring, VW switches look nearly identical, have the same functions (two pull positions + twist dimmer), but have fewer terminals and are FAR cheaper. Like I said earlier, the only difference is in what splitting goes on in the switch v. in the harness, so you'd have to devise an adapter "harness" to connect the 914 harness to the VW switch, but it's doable. Same on early v. late 914 switches, really.
I think the only visible difference between the 914 and the VW switches besides the number of terminals is the rubber part of the knob is very slightly different. However, the 914 knob will fit on the VW switch, so even that difference can be nullified. The price difference is pretty startling: $20-30 (www.cip1.com) v. $400+ (Pelican), so it's well worth the effort to rewire. |

just for reference in case someone does a search in the future...
this is a fog light/rear defrost switch (same switch - different knob insert) should be able to read the 3 terminals.... Attached image(s)
