What's the magic number?
I want to do the suspension bushings and set-up the alignment at the same time. Looking for the best possible results on the track. thanks KT |

Aaron is right.
What tires? What is the rest of your setup? Someone on the board (brad) is good enough to give you a starting point, but fine tuning takes track time and experience. |

From tirerack
"NOTES: While ECSTA V710 tires have an inflated shape with rounded shoulders to complement camber-challenged cars, they still benefit from vehicle alignments that offer significant negative camber." I would start with minimum of -2deg front and -3 rear. Are you still running stock front torsion bars. If you are then I would possibly decrease the front slightly since it is still fairly soft on initial turn in, until the megabar kicks in. (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/wink.gif) 180# rear springs or 225-250#s? -2 and -3 are good starting points. Those are the settings the BI and BP cars were previously allowed. And those cars were quite competitive in AX and TT in years past. With my car I am going to try to get all the neg I can get front and rear. 21mm front bars with stock sway,Koni adjustables front. 180# rears with Bil sports. no magick number. depends very much on the tires you're going to run ... for example, the goodyear schlicks don't like neg. camber much ... i've been told -1 deg. *max* ... (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/cool_shades.gif) Andy |

Tire pyrometer will tell you everything you need to know. and not one of them infrared kinds.

It all depends on the tire. I run Toyo Ra 1's on my Historic Production 914/4 and they recommend at least 2.5 degree camber in the front. Which is hard to achieve with a stock setup.

Like Joe mentioned, you have to check tire temps, and learn how camber changes affect temps. This will also educate you on proper inflation pressures.. |

If by uncut you mean completely stock...then yes.
All 3 of my previous 914s had those settings on comletely stock chassis. The 914-6 had ~ -3 on the front. I am going to be aiming for -2.5 or more on the front. If you are having trouble getting those numbers on the front then slot the mounting holes in the strut towers for the struts, and push them inboard. I have never had to do this but I know folks that have done it. (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/wink.gif) |

At my cars current ride height I was able to get about -2 in the front on stock suspension mounts. I know I could use more for my Hoosiers. To get to -3 I think I would need to get a grinder and cut a bit.

It totally depends on your setup.
If your car is running large torsion bars and sway bar, then you may not need very much negative camber. If it's stock suspension, then a good bit more. No reciepie will set it for you right. Tire temps tell all. Get a good pyrometer. The cost of the pyrometer will more than be offset by the number of tires you save as a result. Not the infrared laser pointer type. You need a good tire probe, and you need to take the temps as soon as possible when you pull off the track. In the hot pits ideally, but if not then, then as soon as you can. Tires cool quickly... -Josh2 |

i'm in! well, not right away, maybe in a month or so ... so, who has the right "tools"? who picked up the corner balance stuff from brad's old shop? (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/idea.gif) we'll need a place where we can safely get some temp into the tires. (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/driving.gif) Andy |
