We have a 1983 Honda Civic that our sons use (and probably abuse).
Recently fifth gear (manual transmission) quit working. Now when you
shift into fifth it's just like being in neutral. I checked the
engine oil level and topped it up a bit (about a half quart low). I
saw no filler or dipstick on the transmission so I sorta think the
engine and transmission probably share the same oil supply. Any ideas
what the cause might be? (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/confused24.gif)

Thx,

The oil supply is not the same. Look for a plug about 3-4" above the bottom of the case on the transmission - that is the fill hole/level.

Previous data I gave you was wrong. I thought it was a 93...

I can get you more data on Tuesday.

PM me for details.

When I saw the title, I was _so_ hoping this thread was going to be a link to an amausing Fifth Gear video featuring an 83 Civic.

Hope your kids car is back on the black again soon.

Thanks for the replies. It gives us some meat to chew on. Looks like it's supposed to hold a little over two quarts of fluid, so we can fill it and get an idea how low the level is/was.
