Man,

This debate has going on for years.

Problem is. Who is gunna spend the R&d bucks to fing out what combo works???

I have been following this technology for a long time.

If I had a extra half a million and had a year to find out what porsche combo would work..

i would..

Cept I don't have the bucks or the facility.

Old news...

And if he hadn't patented the idea I'd try it....

No use trying to prove something that someone else will get the Kudos for...

Do t the design of the TIV heads, the only chambers that we have that would benefit from this (shape wise) is the 1.7 head.

Seems to me that would create stress risers and hots spots in the combustion chamber. I would be interested to see how long a head would last with a groove pointint at the spark plug hole, my guess would be not that long.

Seems to be no true scientific tests done to prove his claims. Or did I overlook something.

Naw,

To get a patent you don't have to have serious info. Just enough info so somebody skilled in the art can make and use the devce and the idea has to be novel and unobvious enough to make it into the patent office.

Two ways to reduce an idea to practice: one is to make and test the device, the other is the filing of the patent.
So, doesn't have to be tested.

Taking off my Patent Agent hat and puttin on my engineer hat, his base idea ain't bad, just needs to be tested and optimized to see if it is worth a darn. Years ago, in on of the old VW Porshce magazines, there was an article about a dual plug 914 head. They claimed to look at the combustion marks in the type 4 head and determined that some of the fuel air mix wasn't being burned away from the plug. Their solution was dual plugs to light the fuel/air mix on two sides.

This guy is putting a groove in the squish area and trying to funnel the squish area fuel air mix into the groove and use that as a jet to induce swirl and increased combustion. Probably does something for swirl efficiency (with the proper shaped chamber), but the increased chamber volume may negate any improvement. Only testing and optimization will tell.

Maybe one way of looking at it is:... I bet GM and Ford and NASCAR prolly looked at it. If it had real merit, somebody would be using it.

On the other hand, auto companies are CSOB's....

Dang, I sound like a lawyer looking at it this way and that... (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/happy11.gif)

It's what the attorneys trained me to do. (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/blink.gif)

Yes better to do it on a 1.7 head. That way if it doesn't work you're only out about $50.
