i see quite a few ads for people selling used springs
mostly 140# for right around 40-45 bucks .... but I was offered a set of welmiesters for 70.00 true in very good shape but the only differance I can see is that these come with a top and bottom perch ..? is the perch something special are they nessisary if I am just swaping stock springs to 140# and installing new koni yellows at the same time ? |

springs normally don't come with the perch, you re-use the perches already on the shocks....
the welt. springs should be stock diameter, the only time you need a special perch is if you go with the typical 2.5" diameter adjustable spring perches ideally you'll want to sooner or later install threaded spring perches if you get serious with the car...you don't need them but they are nice to have..... for stock diameter springs and adjustable perches see my ugly conversion (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/smile.gif) Muellers cheap spring perch mod |

If you are looking for stock KONI perches I should have some in the garage you are welcome to. The adjustable perches are nice but free is good too.

Weltmeister springs fit in the stock perches, the coils are the same diameter. The 140 lb springs are advertised by Weltmeister to lower the rear 1" compared to stock or their 100 lb springs. |

Springs age. It was not uncommon 15 years ago to find the stock springs curved like a banana while in place. It was so easy to tell that they were toast and had to be replaced. Now that the cars are 30 to 35 years old I can't imagine anyone still running stock springs. I would assume that non-stock springs also age, perhaps not as fast or so obviously. YRMV.
