For good eats in Portland I go to Jakes in downtown.... A bit pricey but worth it. Eddy

Dave I am just curious, You are coming down to Portland and staying in Vancouver. Oregon has no sales tax. Why not stay in Oregon and eat in Oregon and pay no sales tax?

Why do you suppose the Parade is headquartered at the Red Lion at Jansen Beach?

No rain would be great but 53 degrees I'll be hoping people hit a few cones just so I can stay warm. I'm looking forward to seeing all you guys.

I know that I am the new 914 guy here, but I don't know if I'll make it out...No wipers and I don't fit with the current steering wheel/seat combo (Recaros push me too far forward and up. My head hits the roof as well.) I fit with stock seats but Craig is getting my stock seats recovered but they won't be ready by this weekend. I'm going to install my old racemark wheel to see if I get any more clearence from the steering wheel/shifter. But currently, I can't get the beast into reverse/first... my knee/leg is in the way.

Maybe I'll come out in the mini. Boy, that would make a nice first impression at the Porsche club! (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/mad.gif)

Eddy probably didn't ask for a history lesson, but as an ex history teacher and lifetime Portlander, here it is:

When arriving in Oregon from the north on I-5 you first reach Hayden Island in the Columbia River (most people don't even realize they are briefly on an island).

To the west of I-5 on the Island is a shopping center containing a Target, Home Depot and other businesses.
In an earlier age (like, when I was a kid) the space was the location of Jantzen Beach, a large amusement park with a great big white roller coaster, olympic size outdoor pool with diving platform, a large dance pavilion, and a quarter-mile dirt race track.

The name came from the Jantzens of Jantzen Knitting Mills, maker of swim suits (anyone remember the diving girl logo?). Anyway, that's my story (illustrated).

The carousel has been restored and is in the present day shopping mall.
Dave, you can take Gerry for a ride (but then he probably is more into 914's now). Class dismissed.

Great history lesson. I remember the roller coaster but never had the opportunity to ride it. (Funny, it looks very much like the Colossus at Magic Mountain!?!)

I think I was 5 when it was torn down.

Great Pic's!

Jim...

Thanks for the history lesson. Looks like it was a pretty cool place. Maybe they should have just left it the way it was? Eddy
