Join us for the 2nd Route 66 Classic May 5-7, 2006
Last years east ---> west Route 66 run in the high desert was a blast. This year we will be starting on Route 66 in Flagstaff and going south through forest and mountains along Hwy. 89. There is no registration fee to participate in the event. Gas, beer, hotel, food and souvenirs are at your own expense. A running 914 is not required to attend. (one of the awards categories is for the Best Non NARP) Friday May 5 - Out of towners arrive in Flagstaff. The host hotel is The Econo Lodge University, 914 S. Milton, Flagstaff, AZ 86001. The room rate is $55. (Make your Reservations Now.) We are walking distance to the Historic Downtown District. Dinner friday night will be at the Beaver Street Brewery. Saturday May 6 - 9:14 AM - Kick Off Breakfast at Mike & Rhonda's Route 66 Diner aka "The Place" - 3518 E. Route 66, Flagstaff, AZ. (behind the Burger King) After breakfast we will head South out of Flagstaff. Our first stop will be Sedona. We will enjoy twisty roads and scenic mountain views along Hwy. 89 on our way to Cottonwood and Jerome. Roadside attractions will include ghost towns, mining camps, state parks, national forest and more. Then it is on to Prescott for the nights festivities. Saturday night our host hotel in Prescott is the Colony Inn. Rates are $49 single /$59 double. (Make your Reservations Now.) Be sure to mention you are with 'The Porsche 914 Group". (There is also a biker group at the same hotel this weekend.) *(I wonder if Troy or his Grandma ride a motorcycle? Russian Terrorist on crotch rockets?? The Exotic Dancers Harley Club???) **(Last man standing at the Neverland Party, please turn out the lights.) The Saturday Night Awards Banquet will be at a location TBD. Sunday May 7 - 'FREE' Continental Breakfast at the Host Hotel. We pack up and drive south on Hwy 89 to Kirkland Junction, Yarnell and Congress. The farwell lunch will be at Bufford's Buzzard Roost Cafe in Yarnell. 9 Magazine has generously offered to donate prizes and sponsor the awards. Thanks Brian. I wish I could go on this event with you. We have committed ourselves to the Route 66 Seligman-Kingman-Oatman Run that weekend. Would like to meet on Friday night at the Beaver Street Brewry. 914 is not ready.

Sunday morning is a trip from Prescott to Congress/Yarnell, including the famous Yarnell Hill loop. The roads between Prescott and Yarnell a worth the drive all on their own. For an idea of what we're in for, check out this log of someone's road trip over the same section: Ric's World
