The southwest caravan will leave Albuquerque on Wednesday, July 5th.

If you're coming from TX or the southeast, please join us.

We'll be heading for Salt Lake City via Farmington, Moab and Price.

On day two, we'll be getting as close to Portland as possible.

Salt Lake City seems like a confluence for almost all members traveling from the east.

Let's meet up there and enjoy the travel day on Thursday together.

I don't know that it will be a caravan, but Linda & I will be leaving Flagstaff for Portland on July 1. We'll be flat-towing the 914 behind the VW Eurovan Camper. The current plan is to go through Las Vegas and make as direct a trip as possible for the Oregon coast to hang out for a couple of days, then loop back to Portland on Friday for the start of WCC. The return trip will go through Lake Tahoe.

Your route is not what I was expecting to see when I opened this thread. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/mad.gif)

We had to condense from 14 days to 8. I have to attend a wedding in October and that's all my vacation will support.

The route I've outlined is the most direct for us.

We will be staying at the Sleep Inn in Ogden, UT on July 5th if the Colorado guys would like to join up.

With the NPR, I'm looking at two 14-hour days of driving each way. We should arrive in Ogden around 8:30pm on the 5th.

OK, I am in. I am leaving Phoenix early Wednesday morning. Plan is to go all the way into SLC on Wednesday and meet up with the group wherever you might be.

Maybe. I'd kinda like to meet up with the CA contingent. I've never driven north of NorCal to Portland.

(IMG:style_emoticons/default/icon_bump.gif)

A couple of questions I need answered as I will officially be away from a computer as of this Saturday in the AM. I am leaving for the cool country on Saturday morning and then heading up to SLC at sunrise on Wednesday.

1 - Eric - is there a place close to your place to shack up for the night?
2 - Any idea what the plan is for Thursday night? Should we make reservations somewhere or just wait and see where we end up?

I think you should detour AROUND Price. It is the Twilight Zone and will suck you in and you wont be able to get out and your car won't like it either.

(don't ask me how I know about this place!)

Mike, there's a ton of places at the 106th South Exit off I-15. Let me know if you need any assistance finding one.

Call Hampton Inn Sandy and tell them you're with Harman Music Group. I think that's a $69 rate.

-or-

Check Marriott Courtyard, ask for Freida and tell her you're with Musician's Friend. Have her check all her properties if she can't get you in there.

Those are all within 7-10 minutes.

-or-

Bring a sleeping bag. Joe, Lucky, Liz and Ferg are all crashing here.

Not a problem...

So, what time should we plan on this shin-dig starting?

Albuquerque = 607 miles/10.5 hours
Phoenix = 687 miles/10.5 hours
Denver = 541 miles/8 hours

I am hoping to be on the road by no later than 6am on Wednesday. Assume a couple of breakdowns, a lunch, gas stops and wildfire detours...I'll be there eventually.

We're heading to Farmington on Tuesday afternoon, so that takes 2.5 hours off our drive.

Probably between 4 and 5 on Wednesday.

So we didn't get the front deck release in time, so Liz has to remove her front bumper to fill up. Don't worry, it's only 4 Dzus fasteners:

And her distributor is eating distributor caps. Look for the full explaination in another thread in a few minutes, but she did make it out of the state. Here we are in Cortez, CO.

The RS got to stretch her legs for an hour and a half today:
