have 73 1.7 engines revs up to 4000rpm and seems and stays there. if i ease off the gas and then go back it goes away mostly in 1st and 2nd gear. any thoughts? i am as lost as my mechanic thanks rich

same thing happened on my car, and I found out that the timing was WAY too advanced.

My first ride had a crappy Anza exhaust.....it was WAY too restrictive and was clogged with rust and other crud. I replaced it with a Bursch....worked a lot better. It was still a slow as molassess 1.7 but it revved to 6K....

Check your EFI trigger points. My 2.0L had the same symptoms and the trigger points took care of it. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)
