have 73 1.7 engines revs up to 4000rpm and seems and stays there. if i ease off the gas and then go back it goes away mostly in 1st and 2nd gear. any thoughts? i am as lost as my mechanic thanks rich

same thing happened on my car, and I found out that the timing was WAY too advanced.

My first ride had a crappy Anza exhaust.....it was WAY too restrictive and was clogged with rust and other crud. I replaced it with a Bursch....worked a lot better. It was still a slow as molassess 1.7 but it revved to 6K....

does the centrif. advance work in the dizzy? timed right?
what induction system? carbs or efi?

Check your EFI trigger points. My 2.0L had the same symptoms and the trigger points took care of it.

Electronic Fuel Injection = EFI
Dizzy = Distributor
