1974 model year...built early 1975 good buddy.... Are your sure? Here is a quote from a well know LE web site talking about production dates: In late 1973, to commemorate their racing victories in the 1972 and 1973 Can Am racing series and to boost sales of the 914 model, Porsche began to develop the 1974 Porsche 914 Can Am Edition. This car was to be a special production car limited to only 1000 vehicles, and was refined through at least seven known prototypes before production commenced. The 914 Can Am prototypes are numbered on this webpage for easy reference so we can follow how the car developed. Here is a link to said web site LINK I always thought the '74 model year cars started being manufactrured in the fall of '73 and production stopped in June or July of the model year. On the web site listed above, the DOT cars for all but one LE are listed as being February, March and April of 1974. I wonder iff there might be some confusion with the Sebring Edition of the 924 ('79 I think)? |

Cool thread! I like to hear this funky stuff is a dealer option. I have spun aluminium kick guards on each side of the door latch area and on both interior rocker pannels. Thanks guys!

Here is the merchandise sheet for the "914 Sebring Promotion". Pat, any clue what this was about? Click on the arrow by the quote to go back to the photo that mentions the promotion. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/WTF.gif) Greg, I can honestly say that I've never heard of this promotion - doesn't mean it didn't exist, though. Oviously, someone had such a promo, but was it Factory or maybe something like a Forida dealer(s) promo? Beats me, though. Actually, it's kinda corny - anyone ever put that stuff on thier 914? |

Unfortunately yes, and no it was not me. The local P/A dealer had two 914's decked out with the gumballs, stripes and spoliers. When sold, both left the dealership without the gumballs. |

Riviera wheels. No really... Factory ran out of Fuchs in the early part of 1975. Cars delivered after that point came to the US with steel wheels. Dealers offered the Rivs as an upgrade. JT I had a conversation with Harvey Weideman of Weideman Wheels recently. My '75 came with Western Wheels. Which are now one of Trekkors race wheel sets. In the front trunk is a steel nearly perfect factory spare, apparently never used. I had been under the impression from my reading that all 2.0 liter appearance group cars came with Fuchs and I ran that by Harvey. Harvey told me that he worked at Sierra Porsche in the parts department in the '70s, coincidently this is where my car came from. He says that many dealers including Sierra would remove the Fuchs and replace them with the Riviera or Western Wheel. Then they would charge for an "alloy wheel" dealer installed option charge and put the Fuchs in the parts department. He said they had hundreds of them sitting in the parts department! hmmm... I wonder what ever happened to them? Rob |

They had to take on Porsche to get the Audi's to add to the Volkswagen sales lineup. |

dealers also did the radio and antenna installs IIRC various Radios were available as factory option (I've price lists from almost all productions years to proof it) of course there were other radios available as dealer option ... here's a pic out of the Brian Long book (was easier for me): Attached image(s) |

Apparently, rustproofing was a sought after addition even in Europe. Those of us who bought it can remember why. When I bought my 914 in late 1972, my 1970 Chevrolet was already beginning to rust! It was a no-brainer at the time. Now, I'd rather I hadn't done it, but it's probably saved the car to this point. It'll go when restoration happens. |
