you mean a mallory CDI = (capacitive discharge ignition)

msd id a company.... and it also stands for multi spark discharge.....

i have a mallory hyfire CDI in my car. works great. i went with mallory due to me having a mallory dizzy and coil

i think the MSD's are built nicer.... but the hyfire 6al has a rotary switch for rev limiting, vs the lame MSD pills you have to buy

The Mallory is a more modern version (digital instead of analog) of the MSD CDI box.

I've heard of more MSD boxes fail, but they are more popular and widely used...I have both

to elaborate on mike's words...

i believe the MSD are more widely supported in ignition applications, but both work great.

and he is right, digital vs analog, and the mallory has a much nicer rev limit controller...

I like mine it gives a strong spark keeping the plugs from fouling when they are cold. and it starts better.
