Felix... Just bring a random box of stuff your planning to use for the Neo.... lol That will get us Oooing and Ahhing for hours..... Andrew The killer is I haven't had much time for neo914 working on the V8, I really need to get this drivable and out of my single garage. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wacko.gif) Maybe in time for next week's breakfast (IMG:style_emoticons/default/idea.gif) BTW, I just spoke to Harry and he said he nearly passed out driving home from ThunderHill yesterday. He has no rear window and top so he was hit with radiator exhaust (out his hood), the direct sun, and engine air coming from the back. A coke can exploded and he thought his water line blew. His Renegade radiator performed flawlessly on the track and the round trip (no trailering). Elmers car is finally running reliably and the two were screaming around the track except at the straights where the 700 hp overcame his 550 hp. See you at the BBQ, hope your dad is ok. Felix |

Looks like a great time. Sorry I couldn't make it. (really sorry)
And thanks to Mike P and all who helped Andrew get back on the road. He made it as far as Pleasanton and unfortunatly had a big time overheat. He parked it and called for a tow truck. Apparently there are a bunch of people in the same boat as the truck was delayed 2 hours. Anyway it's been a learning experience for him. We all have to go thru something like this at one time or another. Ask me sometime about changing a rear end in a 64 Dodge truck on a mountain back road to Cherry Lake at 2 in the morning. |

High props to MikeP and his wonderful fiance for hosting this event. The AC was really appreciated in this weather and the view at his Almaden home is breathtaking. The area lended itself well to the roar of the V8's which prompted one of Mike's neighbors to stop by with his largely unmuffled quad runner. They apparently are used to Mike "excursions". I forgot to thank you, Felix. If it wasn't for you, alot of us would still feel like outsiders. Thanks for embracing and leading the beauty of the 914 and its endless powerplant opportunities. I am never bored of seeing yet another conversion, as they are never alike.

Yep, we went to ACE to get some sealant for the tstat housing leak and he changed his overheated oil. I hope his engine is ok. This heat tested all the cars. Harry and Mike jury rigged a wood heat shield because he had no rear window which worked great on the ride home (his metal gear shift knob was too hot to touch), Jeff's Leaver GT blew one of two fuel pumps and went above 200 (never before) driving back to Belmont (his son was almost passed out), and Chris hit over 200 but fortunately he only had to get back to Los Gatos. MikeP's 914 V8, future plans include supercharging and of course body/paint work.
His Elise may also get some added power too... It's coincedence that he use to see Jeff do fiberglass work on his car while living in Belmont. Attached image(s) ![]() ![]() |

Mike P went for a ride in Harry's and My car.. He wanted the snap that our cars have. Even though his car has 470hp, it felt as fast as mine does because it doesnt kick in till 4k, and it has no "snap" that normal v8's do.. I atribute it to an incorrect power valve in the carb. I dont think he's going supercharger now, and I think he is going to get his power valve correct, and maybe FI... maybe some other stuff..
Ahh... I Overheated. On the way there, I saw 210 consistant, then I hit the hill... went up to 220. This was bad, brought the temp down to 210 after the hill, but I must have cooked my oil or something (maybe 110 heat has something to do with it) because the temp slowly rose to 230. At this point, I said enough is enough I need to pull over... Pulled over, and the large hose piece on the intake manifold has a tiny leak, and its boiling water out. I figure this is the problem, so I tighten it, released the pressure from the radiator cap, and water boiled out for about 2 mins. filled it, and ran the engine to get the air out. BUT instead of it sucking in the water, it just threw it all out!! It was as if the system was holding way more water than it needed.. so did that... bla bla bla... left.. Temp went to 210, then 220, and slowly to 230 and pretty much stayed there through the traffic lights and such. It was deadly hot inside as well... My ac fan wouldnt blow hard enough.. so that didnt work. I was dehydrating.. even though I was drinking water... Got to mikes, ate, BS'ed bout 4 I decided to try and fix it, mike suggests changing oil, (Thanks Mike!!) So we did. Oil was cooked. Very dark brown. Almost black on my finger. Went to ace for some form a gasket.. Unfortunately we got the non hardening one.. Well.. that really didnt work, but we did it anyways, and well.. On the way back, my temps just climed, and stayed at 230. Engine stumbling all the way, put a little load on it, and it just bogged and jerked and made bad noises.. I decide, no... We'll tow it.. So we went to the dublin imax parking lot.. BAD IDEA. It... Was... FULL!!! When I hit the first stoplight I forgot to switch on my fan so my temp went to 240..(thats my Oh Sht point...) Looked for a parking spot for 4 mins... at 240... Oh.. just what I freekin wanted.... Called for a tow, took 30 mins to get through. Its about 730-8. truck came around 1010. I got home at 1210 because we picked up another car (cool tow truck.......) Needless to say.. IM pissed at my car... I cant get the air out the radiator... My setup isnt ideal, It never went over 205 before.... So.. I think im going to go with a rennegade setup. I got pics... Tomorrow i'll post em. Thanks Mike and all!!! |

Hey Mike thanks for the great event (and great food) and thank you Felix for setting it up. Looks like I missed some good stuff when I had to leave early for baby sitting duty. I look forward to the next get together.
BTW my trucks air temp gauge said it was 115 in Mikes driveway and 110 going down 85. The gauge is accurate up to at least 105. Steve |
