Pull the gear stack and send that, not the whole trans. Saves a lot of weight. BTW, Doc is in Pa, my shop ( where the clinic is ) is in Va

Hi Dr. Evil. Hoping you are still helping out fellow 914ers trying to get their machines operating normally!

My teenager son and I are in the middle of a restoration of a 1971-4 that we purchased summer of last year. It was inoperable for the past 10 years sitting in a garage. We got the engine running, and of course the shifting was terrible. We rebuilt the pedal cluster, and replaced all of the shifting linkage bushings, balls. There were no bushings anywhere so I thought that would solve my problem.

We did the adjustments, and it shifted much better (actually got into 4th & 5th gears) but still some grinding from time to time on the downshift into 2nd and some trouble engaging 1st - possible we need to look at my clutch cable adjustment again, but we just dropped the engine to get to work on the gaskets/tin, etc.

We don't know the exact mileage so with engine and tranny out, plan to inspect the clutch, flywheel and thinking would be great to look at the gears. We have no experience with transmissions and thinking having an expert work the gears could save me both time and money.

If you are still working would love to connect with you. Please let me know.

Thanks. Steve (the dad)

Mike i believe i will be sending you my transmission, ring and pinion was beginning whine a bit, it also has LSD. i also have a 5,000 mile rebuilt transmission stack already pulled and ready to be used for parts i would probably be sending this along with the whole unit.

Dr. Mike

I have a Transmission for my 914 that no longer can get into 3rd gear.

1st and 5 th are fine.

It is a clutchless electric that you rebuilt while still a resident. I actually drove to you.

Bushing and stick adustment are optimum, can't even get it into 3 rd from under the car manually. All the other gears move fine.

Do I send the whole unit or remove the stack?

Please let me know about shipping since you are further away.

Many thanks

George Ozer, O.D. (thought it might jog your rmemory, however I have always been quite forgetable)
